While we were in Collegedale helping my friend Mike and his family out after the tornado hit their area we got a BIG education on just how many trees were lost. What to do with all of the downed trees? Well, we had a large burn pile going for the brush but most of the trees were cut for firewood. There is going to be PLENTY of firewood. PLENTY! Here you can see Tate and Zach working in one of the pastures where we put some of the trees. Some of us were piling brush, some cutting trees off of houses, some cutting trees off of fences and some clearing the roads so that people could get around.
Mike and Tara have a horse farm. You know…equestrian helmets, saddles, horses, etc. They are going to have years of work to do in order to get everything back to normal but at least they can function at this point. One of Mike’s concerns is getting to the point to where he can plant trees to help replace some of those lost. He is going to have a lot of planting to do.

I was really proud of Tate. He thinks the world of Mike and he jumped in there and learned the value of helping others. On the way home he was exhausted to this point:

But later he said it was all worth it and that we should do more.
That makes a Mom’s heart soar!
