It has been a long and busy weekend but I a great one. I am home and trying to get my bearings and get back on schedule. Tate did a great job at his tournament!!

He took home a 2nd in fighting and a 3rd in forms. It was a great tournament and I am so proud of him!

I think he is a little proud as well.

The other part of my trip involved taking Erin to Fort Jackson South Carolina to see her Fiance Matthew. We had to make some decisions regarding their wedding and get a picture for her engagement announcement. As soon as I get those pictures uploaded I will share and tell you all the news. Life sure had gotten interesting lately and I can’t wait to see what comes next!

How was your weekend?

It has been interesting cooking without an oven to say the least. Planning every meal around only using the stove top and the crockpot has required some creative thinking at times. I really haven’t ever thought about just how much I use my oven…but I can guarantee that I will never take it for granted again.

Not thinking, I went and bought specific ingredients to make a recipe to share with all of you. I went to two separate grocery stores looking for one of the ingredients. I get home and start to put everything together…and then remembered that I can’t cook it. My oven doesn’t work. DUH Jyl!

So, I will be spending today looking for the part that we think we need to fix the oven. I do know that I have to order it because no one locally or in the surrounding areas carries the part that I need. It is at times like this that I could almost hate living in the country. Almost I said…the concrete jungle is no place for me.

Today, Tate is attending a karate tournament in Tennessee, he asked that I not go. He likes having that little bit of independence going on his own with the instructors from his studio. I was a little bit relieved that I didn’t have to make the long drive and spend the day sitting on the bleachers after wrenching my back several days ago. I am finally able to walk ALMOST straight again but I know that if I went I would be walking crooked once again. I just hope he tries hard, does his best and comes home with a first place trophy. He has been working really hard lately to attain that goal. He has several second, third and fourths but that first has been elusive so far.

Erin will be playing Park Ranger today. She starts back to college on Monday…she and I have both decided that this was the shortest summer ever. It just seems like it has flown by and we haven’t gotten everything done that we wanted to do. She has loved her job with the US Army Corps of Engineers and I am so grateful that she has been able to have the experience. I think her favorite part of her job has been being able to give people tickets.

All that to say…I am going to be home ALONE today!! WooHoo, that is a very rare occurrence, but since Bric also has some things to do it is going to happen today. Now I just have to decide how I am going to totally waste all of that time. And yes, I am seriously going to waste every minute of it doing whatever I want to do without being disturbed!

I hope you have a FABULOUS weekend!!

Ya know, with today’s economy they’s gonna be a lotta people who aren’t gonna be goin on vacation. My family is one of em cause:

“If a trip ’round the world cost a dollar, I wouldn’t make it to the end of the driveway.”

There are lots of people I know in that boat these days.

Today is a big day around here. Tate turns 13. That means I have one leaving the teenage years and one entering them. He has been so excited to see this day and bounced out of bed this morning screaming through the house…”I am a TEENAGER”. Not sure what he thinks that means for him, but apparently it was very important. There will be no personalized gifts this year…he wants things like an iPod Touch, a new video card for his computer, a new XBox since his is messed up.  We have moved beyond all the affordable toys and into the techy aspect of things where everything costs an arm and a leg.

I hope that you have great plans for the weekend…we will be spending the majority of it either at the karate studio getting ready for a tournament on Saturday or at the tournament on Saturday watching all of the competitors, one of which will be Tate himself.

Tomorrow Tate is competing in a karate tournament. We spent this evening at the studio so he could get in some last minute fighting and form practice. While he has competed in a previous tournament, this will be the first that he has fought at. Forms are easy. You do the same moves over and over again. While there is always room for improving little bits here and there, it is basically the same every time. Fighting…you just never know.

While on the way home tonight from the studio Tate asked me how proud I would be if he won first place. I told him I would be very, very proud…so proud that it would take the best anti wrinkle cream in the world to remove the wrinkles from smiling so much. But then I asked him how proud he thought I would be if he won second. He knew the answer without even having to think about it. It was the same answer for first as it was for second or third place and the same answer if he doesn’t place at all.

Tate just smiled and said…Yeah, that what being a Mom is about isn’t it.

Yes Tate, that is what being a Mom is all about!
