Swiss Bliss steak

This Swiss Steak is a little different from your average Swiss Steak. And Boy Howdy is it ever good!

Steak is so expensive these days and there are just times that you want a good piece of steak that won’t break the bank, is easy to make and that the whole family can enjoy. Well, this is it. PLEASE, please don’t tell…but I actually prefer this recipe over a grilled steak any day. It is fall apart tender, melt in your mouth goodness. And it only takes about 10-15 minutes to throw it all together!!

Grab a casserole dish and butter it.

chuck steaks

Place your chuck steak in the casserole dish

Sprinkle the steaks with dry onion soup mix.

Put the mushrooms on top.

Then top with sliced bell peppers.

tomato juice and corn starch

Mix tomato juice and corn starch, pour over the top. Cover tightly with foil and bake.

Swiss Bliss Steak Bake

Butter

1 pound can of diced tomatoes, drain and reserve the juice. (we prefer petite diced, but regular will work just fine)

2 pounds chuck steak (I have mine cut about 1 inch thick)

1 envelope dry onion soup mix

8 oz. sliced mushrooms

1/2 green bell pepper, sliced

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

1 TBSP dried parsley

1 TBSP corn starch

Directions:

Spread some butter in a casserole dish. Open the tomatoes and drain making sure to keep the juice. Cut the steak into the size pieces you prefer. I usually just cut each steak in half. Place the steak into the baking dish, sprinkle with the onion soup mix, top with the mushrooms, peppers and tomatoes. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and parsley.

Mix 1/2 cup of the tomato juice with 1 TBSP corn starch. Pour over the top of the meat and vegetables.

Cover tightly with foil.

Bake on 365 degrees for 2 hours.

finished plate

This is one of those dishes that you always hope for left-overs but there isn’t ever any left. It’s a HUGE hit here. I even doubled it last time I made it and there still wasn’t any left. A simple yet delicious meal that can stand on it’s own or be dressed up for company.

First, you have to make the sauce. The onion sauce is what makes this sandwich!

butter and onions

Melt a stick of butter and add your minced onions.

onion mixture

Add in the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and poppy seeds.

onion mix

Saute until the onions are soft and translucent.

hawaiian sweet rolls

Slice the rolls length-wise and place bottom half in your pan.

onion spread

Top with 3/4 of the onion sauce.

ham and cheese

Add ham and cheese, then top of rolls, then smear the remaining onion sauce on top of the rolls, cover with foil and bake.

finished plate

Yummy!!

Hey, you know that recipe box I am giving away? Well, I am not putting any of the recipes here on the website in the box. The person who wins it can get them off the site and I am sure they want new stuff. Stuff that isn’t on here. Stuff that might not ever be on here. It might be, but it might not is all I am saying. Oh, and I am still working on the box. It isn’t finished yet. I hope it is before the contest is up, but well…let’s just leave it I hope. I should have just said I would send them one of the cookbooks I made. Cause no one has those but family and close personal friends that begged and pleaded and one person that I do not know. But I am committed. I will get all of our favorites written out for your cooking pleasure, whoever you are. I am halfway there at this point. But, while working on that recipe box, I remembered that I haven’t posted a recipe in awhile and thought it past time to do so.

This is a great quick and easy meal that the whole family will love. It is also one of those comfort foods that just soothes your soul when you need it.

HAM & SWISS PASTRY BAKE

2 cups chopped ham

1 cup shredded swiss cheese

1/4 cup chopped celery

1/4 cup chopped bell pepper

2 TBSP minced onions

1 tsp dry mustard

1 TBSP lemon juice

1/3 cup mayonnaise

Mix it all together and pour into an unbaked 9″ deep dish pie shell. Bake it at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.

At this point you can decide if you are going to share with everyone or hide in the corner and eat it all yourself. I vote for the corner!
