Us Southerners have a very unique language. People that are not of the South sometimes have a hard time making any sense of what we are saying. So, with the New Year, I bring you a new topic…Southernism. Every Friday you will get a new Southern Saying, word of wisdom, say-sos, digs, etc.

Today’s Southernism:

Never Kick a Cow Patty on a Hot Day!

Everyone from the South knows this one. It is a wise piece of advice.

Sweet Tea is a staple here in the South. Not tea with artificial sweeteners. It has to be SWEET TEA, with real sugar…and lots of it. The South has many traditions. The sayings happen to be some of the most notorious. We say things here that are hard for people in other parts of the country to understand. When my husband first moved here to GA that was one of our biggest hurdles…the language barrier. I have a heavy southern accent that was hard for him to understand half of what I said in the first place and when you add in the WAY we say things…it is doubly difficult. One of our biggest fights came when he asked if I would do something for him. I responded with “I don’t care to”…to him that meant a no. To me, it simply meant sure, I don’t care to do that for you. Just goes to show it is all up to interpretation.

If you’ve ever stopped to get directions in the South, you may wind up a fer piece down the road. Or if someone tells you they’re fixin’ ta be there dreckly, do you know what they’re saying? Well, you’re not alone!

SweeTea is an apparel line designed to celebrate and preserve the colorful Southern dialect that sometimes leaves a person in a tizzy.

At least it did for the company founders.

Bashford and Hall are two relocated Yankees who, bless their hearts, most of the time were fit to be tied by common expressions such as butter my buns and call me a biscuit.

Now married to true Southern boys, it’s their husbands’ colorful conversation that captivated their hearts and sparked the company’s beginnings.

It began with a simple Bless yer Heart, one of the most common sayings you will hear around the South. Somebody gets married…Well, Bless Their Heart. Somone dies…Bless their heart. Doesn’t matter the situation, we like to bless people’s hearts round these parts. Now, there are dozens of Southern sayings parading around the South on people who have grown to love SweeTea, not the drink – but the shirt. And I am proud to say I am one of them! They have all sizes and styles available for men, women and children.

Above is my FAVORITE! People here in Hick Town are full of BULL! So it just fits and it is also one of my favorite sayings.

These shirts are so soft and comfortable. They just fit good. Not too long, not too short. Sleeves are the perfect length. I mean really, you just can’t get better.

My other favorite…that I love to wear…cause well, you will understand:

pluckin

Make sure you also check out the txtea shirts! They are great! All of their shirts bring a smile to my face and a chuckle to my lips and everyone that see me wearing one always has to stop me to ask…Where did you get that shirt. It never fails. The next question depends on where they are from…they either don’t get it and want to know what it means or they understand completely and want to know how they can get one.

You want one? Well, let me tell you how you can WIN one!
