I have got to get focused and start retargeting my energy on some more productive things in my life. Things like eating birthday cake with friends more often. Things like deciding at the last minute to run away for the day to do something fun.

birthday celebration

Saturday I went to one of my friends birthday celebration. Usually I see her and her family at karate, a karate function or we will meet up somewhere like Fort Mtn. to spend the day…so this was the first time I had been to their house. After getting a tour of the house from Angie I had to get the “mechanical” tour from her husband. So, while looking at the steel beams that hold the back deck up we got to talking about all manner of things like retargeting companies , repelling, rock climbing, etc.

getting ready to repel

Next thing I know, I am calling up my friend Mike and we are making plans to go repelling the next day. See, Mike has this awesome tower, made just for rock climbing and repelling.

the tower

So, That was the plan for Sunday, let’s go throw ourselves off the side of a really tall tower. The thing is…the minute everyone got to the top…it started POURING down rain. Thunder, Lightening, and a torrential downpour that came out of nowhere so fast that we didn’t even have time to blink.

going up

Now, let me explain something to you. When you have 7 kids and 3 adults all still high in the sky, higher than the treetops and a storm comes in…you have to make some choices. Do you be supportive, or do you duck and run? Yeah, I agree…you duck and run. I knew that if I stayed to be supportive of those still to get their feet back on land that I would melt and then I would cry if I ruined my camera. So, while they took to the task of remarketing their ideas of who would come down next, I ran to the shelter for safety.

looking over

The thing about going up…is that you have to get back down. Now, when you are that high up and you have to climb over the edge and you look down, it can be a little terrifying. Add to that a storm brewing, then thunder, the a torrential downpour and it gets even scarier…but, you can’t stay up there forever…

coming down

Now, here is the thing about the law of nature. Once we got everyone safely back on the ground and had the gear almost all put away…it quit raining. No matter, we had a blast…but decided our day of adventure wasn’t quite over…but that is a story for another day.

Thanks to my buddy Tom Murrell for the post.

Travelling involves more than just getting your airplane reservations and a taxi to the airport. If you will be leaving your home for an extended period of time, you will need to make arrangements to keep your home and your household goods protected from theft, fire and flood. Your first steps should be to pull out all appliances from connections with any electrical outlets. You should have your outdoor automatic sensor controlled lights checked to insure that they will work while you are gone. And you should set your security alarm and test it before leaving the house. If you don’t have one and you live in Arizona like me, you should look for the best burglar alarm equipment in Arizona. A home security system can be purchased at a monthly fee from home security specialists or you can find an inexpensive alarm system, follow installation instructions on the package and avoid monthly fees. Protecting your home while you are travelling is important. In case of flooding or fire, you can travel quietly knowing that severe damage to your home will be reported to police and fire departments by your security system as well as attacks by burglars to your premises.

There are many ways to enjoy the summer season but just because the season brings a carefree attitude it does not mean that you should completely abandon your thoughts about home safety tips. The home alarm is there for a reason and no matter what the season it is there to keep you and your family safe. It is actually sometimes more important to keep it activated and to make sure it is checked for proper working order and enabled more often during the summer months. When the family is rushing in and out of the house during the summer the doors are constantly being open and closed as the family members rush outside to the beach, the playground, summer sports games, and picnics. When the individual family members leave and nobody is in the house it gives a robber a prime target to come in and burglarize the house. In order to make sure there is no breaking and entering during the summer having the alarm enabled at all times will keep your worries about robberies at bay. Another thing to keep in mind is that when the windows are open at night to let in a summer breeze in they are more of a target for robbery so they should also have alarm systems installed as well.
