FUJI EnviroMax
November 21st, 2009
It never fails…EVERY year I forget the batteries. You would think that I would remember after forgetting them so often. But no, I ultimately forget EVERY Christmas. So, the kids get up, they open their gifts and lo and behold we need batteries to make at least one (or fifty) of them to work. So this year, I stocked up! I am ahead of the game and it feels great! I chose FUJI EnviroMax batteries. I had received a pack from Fuji to test out and fell in love. They are not only environmentally friendly but they have great power and they last. I always test new batteries in my Camera because it sucks the life out of batteries quicker than anything I have ever seen. But, the Fuji EnviroMax batteries have lasted.

Here is what their site has to say:
The proof is all about us. Our planet is “going green.” And to help that cause, Fuji EnviroMAXTM batteries bring a long-overdue dimension of eco-responsibility to the replacement battery market - along with unsurpassed power and longevity! You truly get the best of both worlds with Fuji EnviroMAX - at no added cost. Independent tests show Fuji EnviroMAX batteries equal, and most often exceed the performance and longevity of equivalent major brands. But that’s only part of the Fuji EnviroMAX story.

A Whole NEW “Green” Kind of Alkaline Battery.
The materials that make up a Fuji EnviroMAX battery are derived from the basic elements of the Earth. There is nothing inside a Fuji EnviroMAX battery that will harm the environment if it is disposed of through normal waste systems. A few reasons why are that Fuji EnviroMAX batteries contain no harmful mercury, cadmium - nor are they packaged with dangerous (and non-recyclable) PVC plastic. Instead, Fuji EnviroMAX batteries are made in some of the world’s most eco-respectful battery plants, operating under some of the most strict standards of environmental responsibility. In fact, most of all resources used in the Fuji EnviroMAX manufacturing process are reused and recycled! What’s more, Fuji EnviroMAX batteries are labeled and packaged with recycled paper and P.E.T. plastic. The result is batteries that meet a world standard for environmental responsibility and recyclable materials. And no other batteries are so respectful of our environment as Fuji EnviroMAX.
SO for your battery needs this Christmas check out the new FUJI EnviroMax batteries. Help out the environment a little while getting batteries that will last in all your electronic toys this season.

Calypso Studios
April 28th, 2009
I was recently given the opportunity to try out some items from Calypso Studios by Mom Fuse. They have some of the cutest decorative, reusable tote bags and jewelry.
The Cabana Totes were my favorite…bet you just can’t guess why.
And the Tousan Green w/cross Bracelet which I absolutely LOVE. I have worn it everyday!
This was another favorite around here :

They have so many great designs to suit anyones taste. In Totes and Jewelry.
S.H.O.P. (Start Helping Our Planet) Totes designs are beautifully created by various American artists and provide a fashionable, yet affordable way to Start Helping Our Planet. Americans throw away about 100 billion bags every year, polluting our waterways and landfills. And it is Calypso’s mission to start reducing that number.
I carried my tote on our Road Trip yesterday to tote all of my treasures around in. They are so handy because they fold up into about a 2X3 size and are convenient to carry with you wherever you go…and they hold LOTS of stuff.
Check out Calypso Studios and their full line of beautiful jewelry and totes!
Once Upon A Time (GIVEAWAY)
April 23rd, 2009THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED!!!!!
There was a boy and a girl. The boys name was Chris, the girl was Kate. When Kate and Chris would go shopping, they tried to be environmentally conscious. They had many different re-usable bags, but were always forgetting them sitting at home. So, Chris decided the best thing to combat the big bad world of the overuse of plastics and the sadness of other re-usable bags was to come up with something compact enough to fit in Kate’s purse and sturdy enough to carry all of their wares.
The more they thought through the problem, the more things they realized that they needed their bags to do. So, here is Kate and Chris’ list:
1. We needed more than one or two bags to carry our stuff, otherwise we went home with more plastic bags
2. We needed a large bag that we could carry on our shoulder and one or two small bags that we could hand carry
3. We needed the set of bags to easily stow into one small unit
4. I wanted the bags to be washable
5. I wanted bags that I wouldn’t feel awkward using in the mall as well as in the grocery
6. And we definitely wanted a bag that would last!
After the list, Here is what Chris and Kate said:
So, we came up with our our own solution. We decided on a material called rip-stop nylon, commonly used for outdoor apparel, that is incredibly durable but can stuff into a small size for easy stowage into a purse or backpack. We made a few prototypes and started to use them. It was amazing how quickly people noticed them and started asking where we got them. Best of all, there were no more bags left at the door! The End!
WAIT! Wait, don’t go. That really isn’t the end. There is more. They started selling them. To people like us. They are called Joey Totes. And they really are WONDERFUL. I have 3, 1 large and 2 small and they all store in a very convenient storage pouch that is built INTO the bag. How convenient, and thoughtful. They really have thought out every part of their bags to make them Unforgettable, Versatile, Responsible, Durable and Practical.
Now you ask, why shouldn’t I just use the plastic bags and recycle them…Well, let us just tell you.
There is a reason the mantra ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ is in this order. Concentrating on reducing and reusing items should come first before resorting to recycling. Once the item is no longer useful, it should be recycled. However, the numbers for recycling paper and plastic bags do not add up to an appealing solution. Less than 4% of all plastic bags are recycled and the energy used to recycle paper outweighs much of the benefit verses virgin wood fibers. Both use valuable resources for a ‘disposable’ product which contributes to energy consumption and pollutes our environment.
Owning and using a well constructed, reusable set of bags is a simple and effective way of being a responsible resident of our planet. And people will think you’re cool, too. So….

FYF-OhNoUDidn’tDesigns! (GIVEAWAY)
April 17th, 2009THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED!!
Welcome to Feature You Friday… an ongoing series where you can hear about great arts and crafts and meet the great people behind them. This series features mostly artist and craftsmenpeople from Georgia but is open to others as well. So if you know of someone you would like to see featured just let me know. Even if it is you. Today, is all about fun, funky, and using recycled products to make something very cool. Merci has come up with products that are conversation starters, they are plain out FUN and they are useful…and help save our planet. Let’s meet her:
Tell us a bit about yourself - name, location and personal stuff.
My name is Merci’a Gomez-Powell and I am located in north Atlanta. The crafting world calls me “Merci.” I am a wife, mother of four children and work my OhNoUDidntDesigns by Wrapper Fashion business full time.
How long have you been a crafter/designer?
With the help of matriarchs in my family, I started sewing my dresses in the 9th grade but the real love for sewing didn’t happen until after I had children in the early 90’s. I started my own fairly successful business in Connecticut that focused on ethnic print fabric accessories like hats, jumpers, men leisure suits & home decor. I moved away from ethnic styles and began selling vintage jewelry and clothing in 2001. In 2004 I caught the recycled accessory bug after seeing a duct taped tote made from Kool Aid Jammer wrappers at a friend’s cook-out. With some nudging by me, my children started bringing home mounds of Capri Sun wrappers from their summer day camp for me to create totes. By the fall 2004, I was utilizing lamination and snack wrappers and other “fast foods” and sewing them into creations you see today.
Are you professionally trained?
I have no school training. The quality of my designs comes from learning under the elders of my family circle. I come from a long line of seamstresses and crafters. But, I’m always seeking out new methods, classes, etc. You can never learn too much about your craft!
Do you have a favorite item that you make?
I love the recycled 2-liter soda wrapper purses and totes. They’re usually so colorful, and pliable to work with when creating one.
Do you recycle?
My whole family recycles religiously. I also encourage others to recycle. I have many donors of the wrappers in inventory and partner with a few schools to collect their snack trash. Teaching by example is the best way to get the word out!
How long does it take to create a purse or tote?
I can whip up a medium sized, basic tote within 1.5 hours. I’m creating a more elaborately designed line for summer, and those style purses take about 2.5 hours.
Do you/your family eat all of the food inside the wrappers you use?
Absolutely not! We’d all be as big as a house if that were the case. Most of the wrapper inventory I have comes from donations by individuals and schools.
Do you see yourself still creating the Wrapper Fashion line for years to come?
I will create these recycled yummies until the last one goes out the door and no one orders anymore. Hopefully that won’t be for a long time!
Merci and OhNoUDidn’tDesigns is giving away this cute Reese’s Purse to one lucky reader. But don’t be fooled by the representation of her work that you see here. It is far mor extensive than I could show. Check her out, you will be amazed at the different items she has learned to create out of recyclable materials.
