rain

Whew howdy! Did we ever get some rain last night. It came a gully washer in the evening but the late night storm was plain ole scary!! Wind was whipping around like crazy the thunder was so loud it shook the whole house and the lightening was so close it was like you had turned on all the lights for just a second. Sounded like you had a bunch of orff instruments all playing at the same time the rain was so loud. I was beginning to wonder if we might wash away…but then I rolled over and let the sounds lull me to sleep…and I have to ask, why is it that we always sleep better when it is raining? Whether it be a change in the atmosphere, the sounds or a change in temperature it doesn’t really matter, I just know I love it. And never sleep better!

Do You sleep better when it rains?

Happy Saturday!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. Here it is rainy and gloomy outside. I have taken full advantage of the day to get some things done around the house and otherwise be lazy. Bric got the oil changed in my car and let me know that I am officially grounded until I get my brakes changed. Hey, I just drive the car…maintenance is not my job. So, I had hoped that my friend Earl could change the brake pads for me tomorrow but with this weather I am just not sure. And I HATE being grounded. I need poc carts and a horse, buggy, go-cart, moped, SOMETHING. Anything.

Anyway, on to the winner:

Congratulations go out to Nicole G!!

When it rains it pours…but there comes a time when you just have to dance in the rain and go with it. Things around here have become comical at this point. Over the last few weeks it seems that every appliance in my house has sagged and finally given up with taking care of this demanding family. My dryer has been repaired twice this year and currently squeaks and still isn’t drying properly, and it isn’t even that old. It is part of a front loader set with the nice pedestals and all the fancy buttons. Well hear this dryer of mine, fancy buttons doesn’t make the dryer!

Then the washer messed up (it is at least fixed)

Then my vacuum cleaner (still hasn’t been replaced, just so you know)

Then my oven (still doesn’t work, just so you know)

Then this past weekend my big freezer that holds 90% of our food went on the fritz.

And the car had a little mishap. Ok, so it wasn’t really the cars fault. Someone hit the car while it was parked somewhere and never said a word. Now the passenger side needs exactly $2,994.00 worth of damage fixed.

See, it’s just getting funny at this point and I really don’t even want to discuss the power bill. I feel like I am living in one of those movies where you either have a remote, or click here to re-enact, or something of that sort. Like Groundhog Day. I think that was the name of it. Now I just wish it would switch over to the movie where I could fast-forward through all of this and get to the good part. But then, I wouldn’t appreciate dancing in the rain. So maybe I will just take what I have and continue to go with it and laugh along the way.

Last week when I was in Alabama visiting a friend of mine, I asked to go to a grocery store near her house called Earth Fare. I knew that they would have a specialty item that I had been on the lookout for and that would save me a trip to Atlanta. So, Christy and I took off in search of my items. When we pull up to the store and outside they have all these rain barrels lining the sidewalk. I don’t think either of us paid much attention to what they actually were at the time but when we exited the store we seriously looked at the rain water barrels because that is an item that Christy has been looking for.

Rain harvesting is an old tradition, lots of people used to collect the rain water to wash their clothes, water their gardens, etc and it is a tradition that is quickly gaining popularity once again making us all with it would rain. The rain barrels for sale at Earth Fare weren’t just barrels. They have a spigot on the side at the bottom so you could hook a hose up to the barrel to use the water or you could dip it out of the top. The top was covered with mesh so that no leaves or other garbage could get into the barrel, just the water. They were super nice.

We never could find a price on them and I knew there was no way I could fit one in the car for the ride home so I just made myself one. It isn’t near as nice and it doesn’t have a spigot but it does the job. Now, I just wish it would rain.
