A week or so ago as I was browsing Pinterest I saw a towel drying rack, made out of PVC pipe, that I wanted so badly to go with our new pool. It was for sale on Etsy…but it was $200!!! I showed it to Bric and we decided that he could make one for LOTS cheaper and that was our plan. Then, as with often happens in our life another plan came along.

We happened to run across pieces of baby beds. They were no longer able to be used for babies and we hated to see them simply go to the landfill and the whole time we were standing there all I could think was “Hey, that would make an awesome towel rack…and a bench!” See, we also need more seating on our deck. So after some scheming with Bric we decided that it could be done and that we should re-purpose the beds into something useful. And we came home and did it. I say WE…like I did anything other than stand there and sweat and tell Bric what a great job he was doing. Hey, someone has to supervise.

All “we” did was angle the two sides into an A-frame, attach some concealed hinges, mount a stabilizing bar on each side near the bottom and Viola! You have a towel drying rack that is perfect for pool-side!! It was a very easy DIY / Craft project from where I was standing at least…so anyone should be able to take it on.

So, here is what our new towel drying rack looks like:

Now if I can just teach Tate to use it instead of throwing his wet towel in the floor!

Yes, I know. I have been Missing in Action lately. But I have some really good excuses. Seriously.

For the last several weeks I have been down in my back. I have degenerative disc disease and it seems that this time I have done something that seems to be lingering. There is nothing worse than back pain. Going to the chiropractor, ice, advil and anything else that I can do is being done. It does seem to be getting some better but I will be so glad when I get back to par. And if that doesn’t happen soon someone is going to have to pack me up, ship me back to my maker and leave Shipsmart testimonials. Because I am tired of feeling under the weather. Sitting is the worst part of it all and writing posts requires sitting.

Also, Bric lost his job. We keep hearing about how much better the economy is…but we sure aren’t seeing it. As a matter of fact unemployment went UP by 8% here in a month. That isn’t improvement folks! But, we live in one of those small communities that is run by the good ole’ boys and if they are ok then all is ok. I will be more than happy to vote this time around and hope like heck we see some changes.

Then, we were given a HUGE gift that required lots of work on our part.It was worth every minute!! Of course I say WE loosely. Bric and Tate did most of the work along with a few really great friends.

Clear trees

First “we” had to clear some trees.

pull up pavers

Then “we” had to pull up all the pavers we had down that served as a patio.

bobcat

Next, the land had to be completely level. I begged to drive but the man that did the work wasn’t too sure about that. He decided he might better take care of things himself. I was just appalled that he didn’t trust me.

rebar

“We” even learned how to cut rebar.

Sparks sure were flying!

sand

Then came the sand!!

spread the sand

They are a Motley Crew.

install the liner

Next, the liner had to be installed. It took lots of people. And several attempts to get it right.

exhaustion

Exhaustion set in.

fill with water

Fill with water!!

OMG it's cold

OHHHHMyStinkinHeck it’s COLD!!!

Play

Let it sit in the sun a few days…

…and then PLAY!

Yep, we were given an 18′ X 33′ Pool thanks to one of my dearest friends. She felt like we needed a little something to brighten our day…little doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Also, while all of this other had been going on Erin got to come in to visit for a week!!! And while she was here I just couldn’t bring myself to be on the computer much.

So see, We have had a little going on but I am trying to get myself caught up…

we will just have to see if it happens. Till then, I have a float calling my name.

This year for the 4th of July we have a heck of a weekend planned. We will spend Saturday in Hiawassee visiting with family and friends, eating good food and hanging out at Carter Camp listening to everyone pick and watching them grin. Yep, that’s right…a good old fashioned Pickin’ and Grinnin’. It is an event that we look forward to every year and I can’t wait.

Then on Sunday we will be going to a cookout at some friends house where we will lounge by the pool, eat good food and just have a relaxing good time.

Monday will be a day full of fun on the lake. Riding around on the boat, tubing, skiing, and all that fun stuff.

In other words we will be outside ALL weekend. With us all having fair skin that means gobs of sunscreen applied on a regular basis and hoping like heck none of us gets burned too bad. Erin and I have both had scares with skin cancer and it runs rampant in my family. We have to be really, really careful and make sure that our sunscreen is of high quality and it isn’t expired. That is where Banana Boat comes in.

One of the things that I love about Banana Boats new line is that it is 110 SPF! 110!! Did I tell you that it is 110 SPF? Ok, just wanted to make sure. Because for us, that is a MAJOR plus. It’s HUGE.And it comes in the convenience of a spray! LOVE it!!

ALSO, this sun season, Banana Boat® sun care is setting out to raise $101,000 for The Skin Cancer Foundation by “sun certifying” 101,000 Americans. As part of the brand’s Sun 101 education campaign, Banana Boat® is helping to teach Americans about the basics of sun protection. You can get sun certified on http://www.facebook.com/BananaBoatBrand, by taking a short “Sun Certification” quiz. They will receive a “Sun Certified” badge to display on their own Facebook wall and trigger a $1 donation to support The Skin Cancer Foundation’s sun education initiatives, for a total donation of up to $101,000. It is really easy and goes to a great cause!

Banana Boat was so gracious and sent my family a sampling of their new line of 110 SPF products. We have been testing them out to see if they would meet our needs and I am THRILLED to say that not a one of us has burned even the slightest bit. That’s a pretty big testimony folks. We took Banana Boat on a recent rafting trip, to the pool and to the lake so far. I think I might just be in love and can’t thank them enough for the protection that they have provided to my family through their line of products. We are now loyal users and fans!
