As Earth Day approaches we should all be looking a little closer at some of the ways that we can each make a difference to this lovely planet that we call home. This year I have spent many different ways looking into how my own family can make a difference. We have started using organic and natural cleaning products, pest control and paper products. We use all energy saving light bulbs. We have made a conscience effort to use less power and water. We have started recycling, granted, it is on a small scale at the moment but it is a start. Remember, we live in the middle of nowhere…we do not have a recycling program here, much less curb side pick-up. Hmm, we don’t even have a curb.
Our biggest obstacle has been paper products. We use a lot of paper products. That means I am responsible for the loss of a lot of trees. Toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, facial tissues. Yep, we use them all. Then I found:

Their Mission and Vision:
Marcal is an “Earth-Friendly Paper Goods Company” that provides consumers like you with products that you can feel good about purchasing. For over 50 years, Marcal has been making its paper from recycled paper, not from trees. By purchasing Small StepsTM by Marcal® brand, you are taking a small, easy step to a greener earth.TM
At Marcal, We believe that products should:
* Give you the performance you can count on
* Be good for the home and gentle on the environment
* Not cost a lot
Ahhh, I feel better. Now I can use a paper towel knowing that it came from recycled paper and not from cutting down yet another tree. And I love the Marcal products. My favorite thing? The toilet paper! Why? Because it is easy on my septic tank and I don’t have to change the roll near as often! HALLELUJAH! Seriously. And that of course brings up the age old question of why is it that only the Mom knows how to change the roll.
On the Marcal Small Steps website you can find the complete story and how they strive to recycle and make changes in big and small steps to benefit the environment. You can also find hints and tips by Beth to help you make changes as well. Another great thing about Marcal…you can usually find a $1 off coupon in the Sunday paper making it an even better deal. Saving the environment. Saving money. And providing your family with quality paper products. That is what I think of when I think of Marcal. So, what will you do between now and April 22, 2010 for Earth Day? I will be using Marcal toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues and napkins. I will be saving trees with Marcal.
I was provided with a sampling of Marcal paper products to help facilitate this review. All opinions are those of my own and I was in no other way compensated for this post.

THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED !!!
You all know how much I love Carolina Pad’s collections of school and office supplies. And now they are giving you the opportunity to love them as well. One lucky reader is going to win their choice of either the Kendall Collection or the Sasquatch Collection just in time for the new school year! Here, let me tell you a little about them because you have a choice to make.
Sasquatch – Leave Nothing But Tracks:

Made from recycled materials, these beautifully designed notebooks, folders, binders and divider tabs also include an environmental education component that reminds young people about everyday actions they can take to become even better stewards of the environment.
The product collection is appealing to school age girls and boys as well as moms who want to teach their children to live green. Sasquatch products enable them to express their love of the environment through nature-oriented designs and to learn how they can make the world a better place.
Carolina Pad’s Sasquatch Web site, www.find-sasquatch.com, is an interactive destination designed to give visitors information on environmental issues. From interactive games to informative tips, blogs and links to additional green resources, kids can use the site to make a difference. They can also connect with Sasquatch through Twitter and Facebook.
Kendall Kollection – Inspired by a Special Little Girl:

The notebooks and office supplies in this collection are not only eye-catching and beautiful, but they are also a small way for a designer and a company to give back to a little girl who was stricken with leukemia. We thought you would like to know Kendall’s story.
When Jacqueline Savage McFee (www.jackiemcfee.com), signature designer for Carolina Pad (www.carolinapad.com) – the industry leader in trendy school, office and organizational fashion products, got the devastating news that her two-year-old cousin, Kendall Sierens, was diagnosed with leukemia, it brought things into perspective for her. It also created a spark. The Kendall Kollection – a collection of colorful high-end school supplies inspired by the artist’s young cousin – was born in 2008 and has been raising funds and awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The partnership between Jackie McFee, Carolina Pad and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society continues for 2009 with fresh new designs. This wildly successful collection is available at major national retailers including Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Office Max, as well as grocery and drug store chains.
Kendall is now almost six-years old and in remission, but the battle continues for thousands of other children just like her. We look forward to another year of helping The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in its effort to find cures and better therapies for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Mothers and their daughters adore the look of the collection, but really love knowing that purchasing these products helps those in need.
Now, you have the hard decision of which collection you would choose! While you think it all over and make your decision, visit Carolina Pad and see what else they have to offer. The School year is quickly approaching. Erin will be starting college in under a month and Tate has already started back. We aren’t in full swing, but we are getting at least 2 or 3 days in a week. It is just easier for us to go ahead and get some of it out of the way as we can because we have plenty of days that we find stuff to do throughout the year. So, we started back a little early this year.
With the start of school comes the dreaded task of school supplies. The list that public schools send out each year seems to grow and grow. I always had a problem with buying soap and towels to send to school. I mean really, where DOES my tax money go? Can they not even give the kids some soap to wash their hands?

The Eye Candy Collection
At least now, there is a great company to send your child back to school in fashion as far as school supplies go. Carolina Pad offers several lines of great coordinating sets that is sure to please any taste. Need office supplies that are WAY beyond the boring old fashioned stuff we have been used to? Carolina Pad has you covered.

The Hot Chocolate Collection
Erin is thrilled to be toting the Hot Chocolate collection with her to college. She has all Hot Chocolate Binder with all the dividers organized and ready to go. It is my opinion that in order to succeed in school you need to be well organized. Where is that assignment that you need to finish by next week? With just a flip through one of the many planners they offer you can easily find it.
My personal favorite is the Organizational Folder. It is durable and great for all the papers I need to keep track of. The pockets won’t rip or tear giving me the confidence that my stuff will be exactly where I put it.
I wish they had more of a collection for the boys. Tate loves school and office supplies too and it would be nice to have a fun coordinating set to offer the male set that wasn’t just plain. The Chat Collection was his favorite out of the collections they have to offer. Of course, he does love to text so it fits him to a tee. He also likes their Sasquatch line.

The Chat Collection
But overall, anything you could want to get your child back to school or to organize your office can be found at Carolina Pad. Quality products, great prices and fun stuff! Check them out today to see what inspires you to get back in the swing of school, work or fun.
