One of my favorite places to shop online is a site that features unique artisans from around the world. Novica is in association with National Geographic and hopes to create a bridge between you and the many talented artisans across the globe. They have so many great items that my biggest problem is always what I want to buy next.

silver bracelet

The girls all got some Sterling Silver Jewelry for Christmas from a talented jewelry maker that lives in Thailand.

glass pitcher

I have gotten my Mom a handcrafted glass tea pitcher from an artisan that lives in Mexico.

I am addicted, I just can’t help it and I highly suggest that if you are ever looking for unique gifts that you check them out. I mean really…how cool is a chess set made from recycled auto parts? And the sculptures…oh my, they have some of the most gorgeous sculptures. Some of the mother ones would make great Mother’s Day Gifts.

I keep getting sucked into the necklaces and earrings. I want a necklace but I just can’t decide on which I like the best. So, I am going to ask you to choose which necklace you like. And to thank you…one of you will win a $50 gift card to Novica!!

The great folks at Novica supplied me with a gift card, the gift card for this giveaway along with some of the information in this post. All opinions are my own though. I really LOVE Novica, what they stand for and believe in. Ok, so I guess I love what they sit for too because you can’t be left standing all the time, if you were you would get spaghetti legs and probably fall over at some point.”

national parks header

My friends at Energizer have teamed up with the National Park Foundation to launch a public effort to power and preserve America’s national parks. We frequent National Parks every opportunity that we have, our favorite one that is relatively close to us in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park:

Smokey Mtns.

I love it there. It is a gorgeous place to visit if you are ever in the area. And very much worth preserving.

Helping to launch the program is outdoor enthusiast, Peter Facinelli of The Twilight Saga and Nurse Jackie.

PeterFacinelli

Energizer and Peter are working towards bringing awareness to the importance of preserving our country’s greatest natural resources and are giving people a number of ways to get involved:

Join a Live Facebook Chat with Peter Facinelli

Peter Facinelli fans can chat with the actor and outdoor enthusiast on Wednesday, April 20 at 1 p.m. EST.  To participate in the chat, visit the Parks tab on the Energizer Bunny Facebook page.  Here is a direct link to RSVP to the event:

Have Fun During National Park Week

From April 16 through April 24, the country celebrates National Park Week. Not only can everyone receive free admission to all national parks this week, but people can also text BUNNY to 27722 to trigger a $1 donation from Energizer to the National Park Foundation, up to $50,000. Energizer’s goal is to donate $400,000 to the National Park Foundation this spring, and you can help them get there.

Product Purchase

Right now in stores specially-marked Energizer products contain a special code so when someone buys three participating products, he or she can go online to www.nowthatspositivenergy.com/blogs and redeem the codes for a $10 reward toward a national park adventure or elect for Energizer to donate the reward directly to the National Park Foundation.

Get Hands On

For the people who prefer to get more hands-on, they can RSVP to join a now that’s positivenergy national park volunteer event by visiting www.nowthatspositivenergy.com/blogs or facebook.com/energizerbunny and clicking on the Parks tab. While there, visitors also have the power to select one of the park recipients through an online vote, which runs from Monday, April 18, through Friday, May 13. Each park hosting an event will receive a grant from Energizer and a donation of responsible power solutions including solar panels, chargers, batteries, solar lights and other lighting products.

Energizer would love for you to visit www.nowthatspositivenergy.com/blogs or facebook.com/energizerbunny to see how you can get involved in helping to preserve America’s national parks. And to thank you they would like to offer one lucky Post-It Place reader a $10 Walmart gift card.

Original Raisinets LOGO

Did you know that TODAY is National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day? It really, really is!! Yummy, I love chocolate covered raisins. My very favorite happens to be NESTLÉ RAISINETS. Yummy!!

Milk Chocolate Raisinets

Fun Facts about NESTLÉ RAISINETS

• All NESTLÉ RAISINETS are produced in Burlington, Wisconsin. They are made with select California raisins and a unique blend of NESTLÉ Chocolate.

• RAISINETS were first introduced in 1927 by the Blumenthal Chocolate Company. Back then, it took two-and-a-half hours to produce one batch of RAISINETS! Now it takes between 45 and 60 minutes.

• Today, NESTLÉ produces more than 1 million RAISINETS per hour! Slightly less than 30 million individual RAISINETS each day!

• In 2010 NESTLÉ produced nearly 20 million pounds of Milk and Dark Chocolate RAISINETS, which is equal to approximately 8 billion individual RAISINETS. If you lined them up end-to-end, they’d stretch all the way around the earth about three-and-a-half times!

• Last year NESTLÉ used almost seven million pounds of raisins and more than 10 million pounds of NESTLÉ Chocolate to produce both Milk and Dark Chocolate RAISINETS.

• RAISINETS are the first chocolate covered raisin candy to have a cartoon series featured on its own YouTube channel! – www.youtube.com/raisinets

• RAISINETS are a natural source of fruit antioxidants and have 30% less fat than the leading chocolate brands!

“I was not compensated in any way for this post. I just thought this was a fun giveaway for a fun day. And well, I really, really do like Raisinets and figure it is better for you to have the chance to win them because if they were sent to me I would just eat them. Every single one of them. ANd there would go my diet. And I would have to do even more Zumba. Yeah, much better for them to go to your house.”

Pokemon Championships

WOW, I was AMAZED yesterday at the number of people who came to compete in the Pokemon Championships. Tate plays Pokemon, although not seriously, so I knew it was still pretty popular but I had no idea just how popular! And the Championships…what fun. Yes, it is an intense event that everyone attends in the hopes to win but Pokemon does it right. There are 2 divisions, Junior (born before 1997) and Senior (born after 1997).  There were over 300 competitors in the Junior division and over 650 competitors lined up through the room and winding up and down hallways all through the arena waiting for the Senior division to start.

Pokemon Crowd

(this doesn’t even show a quarter of the crowd waiting)

The coordinators would get them all psyched up by doing waves, getting out into the crowds speaking to different people..finding out who they are, where they are from, etc. There were some amazing stories from some of the attendees and competitors, there is no way that I can tell them all, but here are a few…

Zion at Pokemon Championships

Meet Zion. Zion’s Mom read about the Pokemon Championships in a magazine on Friday. Friday evening at 6 PM she and Zion went out and bought the specific game required for the tournament and then showed up on Saturday to give it a go. Zion placed in the top 8 at the Championships and has an invitation to attend Nationals. That is pretty amazing!

Grace - Pokemon

Young Grace and her family are HUGE Pokemon fans. They drove all the way from Chicago to attend the tournament in Atlanta. Grace, her two brothers and her Dad all compete and spend time as a family attending Pokemon events all over the country. Linda (mom) gets to do the driving while the rest of the family battle their way down the road. This moment shows the big pay-off for Grace and just how proud a Pokemon Mom Linda is:

A Winning Hug

Luke-Pokemon

Luke was the hometown favorite…hailing from Marietta GA. It was fun watching him start with hundreds of kids, moving his way up through the ranks and seeing him finish 2nd! Way to go Luke…I can’t wait to see how you do at Nationals!! That last match between Luke and Grace was intense, it went back and forth several times as we all watched with baited breath to see who the winner would be…

Grace Wins!!

In the end, Grace came out victorious over everyone in the Junior Division.

AND, in the Senior Division…

David and Glenn - Pokemon

Father and son Glenn and David Arnold from Chicago (Grace’s Dad and brother) ended up squaring off against one another in the Senior Division Finals out of more than 650 competitors. David ended up victorious over his father to claim the trophy but both will advance to the National Championships competition held at the end of the month.

Tate & CJ - Pokemon

Tate and CJ having a fun moment at the tournament.

As I said, it was a fabulously fun day. And was a free event for anyone who wanted to attend or compete. The last of the Regional Championships will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 in Newark, NJ if you and your family are interested in attending.

Then the Nationals will be June 25-27, 2010  in Indianapolis, IN

I wish the best of luck to all of the wonderful competitors Pokemon Trainers that I met who will be competing in Nationals!
