Many of us live in less than ideal circumstances. But when folks ask us how we are doing the typical response is always “Fine”.

Mighty Fine movie poster

Recently I got to see a preview of a movie coming to theaters on May 25th! Mighty Fine delves into the intricacies of a family faced with not being “Mighty Fine”. Dealing with anger, and the repercussions that anger has on each family member pushes them to the brink. Will they crash over the side or will it all be…Mighty Fine? This is a wonderful movie that hits home with so many people that I know. While I am married to a wonderful man I have friends that didn’t get quiet so lucky and deal with issues at home on a daily basis. I HIGHLY recommend the movie to everyone! There are a couple of drawbacks though. While I do recommend it and loved the movie it is full of language. I think it all plays into the role of the father and his temperament but it is strong at times. At first the mom’s accent (played by Andie MacDowell) is distracting, but by the end of the movie you realize that it helps to connect with her in her role.

After the preview of the movie was over I had the opportunity to chat with some of the actors in the movie and fell in love with Rainey Qualley. She is the real life daughter of Andie MacDowell and is just precious. I can’t wait to see what roles she chooses as she travels the path of her mother. And Chazz Palminteri…I loved, loved, loved seeing a personal side of him. Hearing the actors talk about the movie, the intensity of some of the scenes and how they prepared for the emotions was so insightful and interesting.

Synopsis: Set in the 1970s, Mighty Fine is the story of Joe Fine (Chazz Palminteri), a charismatic, high-spirited man, who relocates his family, wife Stella (Andie MacDowell), daughters Natalie (Jodelle Ferland) and Maddie (Rainey Qualley), from Brooklyn to New Orleans, in search of a better life. Joe’s devotion to his family knows no bounds, and he seeks to provide them with the ultimate in the good life, from a palatial home to a steady string of extravagant gifts. Unfortunately, Joe’s spending spree is wildly out of touch with reality, as his apparel business is teetering on the brink of collapse, a fact he refuses to accept. On the surface Joe is a charmer with a king-sized personality, but underneath he is possessed by a deep-rooted anger which he frequently turns on the family he loves; the largest part of his fury is directed at Maddie, who is sixteen and beginning to show signs of both an emerging sexuality and a willingness to challenge his authority. Stella, a holocaust survivor and no stranger to victimization, and younger sister Natalie, an aspiring poet, appear to be more forgiving of his “fits,” but they feel the impact of Joe’s emotional abuse as much as Maddie does.

Make sure you check the movie  Mighty Fine  out when it premieres in theaters on May 25th. Since it is only showing in select theaters, you can check to see if there is a theater near you here: http://mightyfine-themovie.com/theaters.html

It doesn’t matter how old or young, there is something for everyone and always a life lesson to learn.  Coming to NBC tonight – Friday, December 2nd –  at 8pm ET/7pm CT is another great family movie titled “Game of Your Life“. So grab the popcorn and get ready to see just how the choices that we make can affect so much more than just that one situation. It can affect our whole life…and the lives of others.

Teamed up with determined group leader Sara and his brilliant yet socially awkward roommates, Donald and Phillip, the four set out to involve the entire campus in a quirky new social interactive game. As the project intensifies, Zach learns that his father is in financial trouble. Distracted and desperate to help, he accepts an opportunity to work with Bentton on a secretive and suspicious side project. Zach finds himself stretched to his limits and torn between his responsibility to the team and his desire to help his father. With nowhere else to turn, he confides in Professor Abbie Lambert and is forced to make a decision that will affect his future and the lives of everyone around him.

“P&G provided me with a preview of the movie and some promotional items to help facilitate this post. But ya’ll all know I LOVE Family Movie Night and you would have to beat me with a stick to keep me away. And, as usual…all opinions stated are my own. Hey, if you have some extra Kettle Corn can you send some my way? Tate ate all mine and that is kinda my favorite. Ok, I think I am all through disclaiming now and we will return to our regularly scheduled program”

Are you looking for a great movie for your family this weekend? Check out “A Mile In His Shoes”!

From the director of “Angels In the Outfield” comes an inspiring story about a special boy with an amazing gift, and the coach who believed. Dean Cain and Luke Schroder star in the gmc World Premiere Movie: “A Mile In His Shoes,” Sunday, September 25 at 7 & 9 PM ET.

A Mile in his shoes 1

Based on the book written by acclaimed author Frank Nappi. “The Legend of Mickey Tussler” is the 2008 novel based on a 17-year-old baseball player of the same name, who scores a roster slot with the Boston Braves’ minor league team.

Canyon River Rats Coach Arthur Murphy (Dean Cain) is absolutely awestruck by Mickey’s (Luke Schroder) pitching arm when he sees him pitching apples, but can it work?  Mickey has Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism, which leads to an endless stream of challenges. Will his over-protective father even allow him to try-out? Will Mickey be able to leave the farm and his pet pig Oscar behind? How will he ever make it in the world outside the farm without his mother?

I don’t want to tell you too much and ruin the movie, but I can say this is a MUST see film perfect for the whole family. Full of heart warming moments and life-lessons.

We all have skeletons in our closet. Some are born of our own perception of events.

Without facing those skeletons it is sometimes hard to move forward in life. Jake is finding that out in the new P &G / Walmart Family Movie Night premier on September 3rd at 8 PM EST on NBC.

Game Time Tackling the Past

Pro football star Jake Walker is just one season away from setting an all-time receiving record that will guarantee him a spot in the Hall of Fame. But when he gets news that his father has suffered a serious heart attack, Jake leaves training camp and returns to Riverton, the small hometown he’s avoided for nearly 15 years.  Past memories of glory and regret resurface as Jake is forced to reconnect with the family and community he abandoned in pursuit of his career. A call from his agent delivers another crushing blow – Jake’s contract will not be renewed. Stripped from the thing he cares about most, the real Jake begins to emerge from behind his armor to see that life proves more than the accumulation of personal stats. But when he’s offered a lucrative new contract with another team, he must decide whether to go back to the career he thought he loved, or stay in Riverton and embrace the people who have always been there for him.

I can’t emphasize enough how wonderful these movies are! With each one I say it is my favorite so far because they just keep getting better and better. So, once again…this is a must see for the whole family. Grab the popcorn, turn down the lights and let’s get ready to rumble!! Watch as Jake learns the difference between being a good man and just looking like one.

“I was provided with the opportunity to preview the movie before release however I was in no way compensated for this post. I truly believe in the wholesome family movies that P&G and Walmart are producing to encourage families to come together, watch some good entertainment and spend time together.”
