Feeding America Show Your Helping Hand

This post is very special to me. I live in one of the areas of the country with the highest unemployment rates. I know many, many, many people that lost their jobs due to the economy in the last few years…and there just aren’t any new jobs in our area to be had. See, we live in carpet country. Most everyone here works in a carpet mill or is indirectly employed because of the carpet mills. So when the economy took a down-turn, people quit buying and building houses. No one needed carpet. When that happened the lay-offs started. Then because of all the lay-offs and no one having money, the stores suffered and started closing. It just spiraled down-ward from there to the point that even our hospital is getting ready to close. So, please…read the rest of this post. And Show Your Helping Hand.

To raise awareness about the national issue of hunger, Hamburger Helper® is partnering with GRAMMY® Award-winning singer, songwriter and actor Tim McGraw to help Feeding America deliver millions of meals to local food banks through the Show Your Helping Hand™ campaign. McGraw will lend his voice to the campaign through a Public Service Announcement which will be distributed nationwide.

You can help support this campaign by submitting codes from specially marked boxes of Hamburger Helper at www.showyourhelpinghand.com or by logging on to make a donation. Hamburger Helper has already donated more than half a million dollars and will contribute up to an additional $100,000 to Feeding America through this program. Don’t think one code will make a difference? The 17 cents Hamburger Helper donates per code is enough for Feeding America to deliver one meal to a local food bank. ONE meal…PER code. In other words when you enter just one code you helped someone get a meal that they would have otherwise done without. YOU kept a child from going to bed hungry.

I love appetizers. I love Pillsbury Crescent rolls. When you combine the two…heaven

No holiday celebration is complete without appetizers made with flaky crescent dough. Pillsbury has put together so many great recipes using their Crescent rolls, most are easy, yet impressive and call for either Pillsbury® Refrigerated Crescent Rolls or the newer Pillsbury Crescent Recipe Creations® refrigerated seamless dough sheet.

PERFECT for Valentines Day!

I can’t wait to make these Crescent Hearts for my family as a special Valentine’s treat. They are SOO easy and cute.

INGREDIENTS
3 tablespoons red sugar
1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated crescent dinner rolls or 1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury® Crescent Recipe Creations® refrigerated seamless dough sheet
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
DIRECTIONS
1. Lightly grease cookie sheets. Sprinkle cutting board with half of sugar.
2. If using crescent rolls: On sugar-sprinkled board, unroll dough and separate dough into 4 rectangles; firmly press perforations to seal. Lightly press dough into sugar. If using dough sheet: On sugar-sprinkled board, unroll dough and cut into 4 rectangles. Lightly press dough into sugar.
3. Brush rectangles with 1 tablespoon of the butter; sprinkle with remaining half of sugar. Place 1 rectangle on top of another. Starting with both of the shortest sides, roll up each side until rolls meet in center. Repeat with remaining 2 rectangles. Refrigerate dough rolls about 30 minutes or until dough is firm.
4. Heat oven to 375°F. Grease cookie sheets. With serrated knife, cut each roll into 8 slices, forming a total of 16 slices. Place slices, cut side down, 2 inches apart on cookie sheets. Pinch bottom edge of each slice to form a heart shape. Brush with remaining tablespoon butter.
5. Bake 9 to 13 minutes or until golden brown. If necessary, gently reroll cookies. Immediately remove from cookie sheets to cooling rack.

For supper we had this:

Yummm. All I did was cook a pound of bacon and crumble it up. Chop and brown a small onion. Mix with mayonnaise. Lay out the Pillsbury Crescent rolls, fill with the mix, top with slices of swiss cheese and bake. Sooo easy and DELICIOUS!

Pillsbury Crescent rolls are a great staple to keep on hand for easy appetizers and dinner fixes. These recipes along with all of the others at Pillsbury will help you entertain with ease while still wowing guests with tasty twists to familiar foods. And just one more reason to celebrate … each recipe requires just about 20 minutes of preparation.
