Pay It Forward Friday graphic

We all have a road we have to travel. It’s our destiny I suppose. Each and every road is speckled with flat smooth patches, hills and potholes. That is just life. It’s how we accept the challenges in our road that makes a difference. And some roads are more riddled with bumps that others.

We all have friends that just can’t seem to catch a break, we watch as they struggle and fall. And if we are a good friend, we help them up, dust them off and help them along the way. Perhaps we walk beside them for awhile, perhaps we carry them, perhaps we abandon them to find their own way…not because we don’t care…but because in some situations we each have to make our own way and figure it out.

It’s hard to watch people you care about struggle. Watching the uncertainty in their eyes, the pain on their face. The not-knowing if they are going to be ok. We all have been there or will be there. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could look ahead on our own personal journey and say “Ok, here comes a little pothole, it’s gonna be a bump, we need to prepare.”  and even better if we knew about the craters that rock our world so hard we aren’t sure if we will ever survive.

I have a friend that hit a pothole this week. It was a scary time for her and her family. She called needing a shoulder and some prayer which I was more than happy to lend. Then I found out she hadn’t eaten more than a granola bar here and there in several days and I decided it was time to kick it in gear.

plate of food

So we fixed enough food to feed an army and I started plating in my handy dandy take out boxes and took off to deliver some nourishment to my friend. And the thing is, while it does nourish the body, knowing that someone cares that much about you, well it nourishes the soul. And that is why I like to feed people. Of all the things I do as I travel my own personal road, that is my favorite and I think it nourishes my soul more than anyone else.

Share Breakfast Logo

It breaks my heart to know that 1 in 5 kids may go without breakfast every day. But unfortunately, that is a reality that many face. We are so lucky and blessed to know that our kids start the day out right with a well-balanced breakfast. So when I was presented with an easy way to help others do the same I jumped at the opportunity….and you can too!  Kellogg’s® and  celebrity dad and actor Taye Diggs have partnered to share breakfast with children in need as part of the third consecutive Share Breakfast initiative. Thanks to this great program, families across the country can share a breakfast with a child in need by simply sharing a public service announcement featuring Diggs on ShareBreakfast.com. For each view, share and comment, Kellogg’s will share a breakfast.

Along with in-school breakfast partner Action For Healthy Kids®, Kellogg’s and Diggs are making it their mission to show families how a wholesome breakfast can help kids reach their full potential every day. Kids who eat breakfast have more energy and focus for learning[1], yet nearly one in five children across our communities go without breakfast.[2] That’s why Kellogg’s and Diggs are leading the charge to help end childhood hunger and are rallying families across the U.S. to help provide breakfast for kids in need.

As a dad, Kellogg’s Share Breakfast campaign is a cause Diggs feels passionately about. His mom was a teacher and he was raised on the belief that eating a wholesome breakfast helps give kids the potential to have a great day. As a child, Taye grew up as the eldest of five children in Rochester, New York and after the sudden death of his father, Taye stepped up to help his mother care for his four younger siblings. Through his family leadership, he can relate to the financial worries that many families in America face in putting food on the table every day. In the program’s third year, Kellogg’s Share Breakfast will share one million breakfasts* with kids in need through grants to schools or school districts to help them increase their participation in school breakfast programs.

“Just imagine what kids across the country could accomplish if they each had a great start every day. That’s why I am partnering with Kellogg’s and the Share Breakfast program to help make this a reality,” said Diggs. “Join me in raising one million breakfasts to help get America’s kids the start they deserve.”

We have not only shared by clicking the above action links, but we shared out breakfast with some family and friends one morning.

After getting everything set up, our guest started arriving and were ready to dig in.

lets share breakfast

Make sure to share your breakfast with the special folks in your life and remember those that may be doing without. Teach your children the importance of a balanced meal to start the day, it will make their day go smoother…they will be more productive, can focus better and have more energy.

While we haven’t ever had to go completely without, we have wondered many times just where the next meal would come from. I can sympathize with the many parents who struggle day to day wondering where their next meal will come from. I sincerely hope that each and every one of you will visit  ShareBreakfast.com to watch the public service announcement with Diggs and share it with your friends, encouraging them to share it as well.

After all with just a click or two, we can Pay-It-Forward, and make a difference by helping to fill a child’s tummy, and get their day off to a great start!

* Each time you share, Kellogg will donate the monetary equivalent of a school breakfast shared. Kellogg will donate up to $250,000 – the equivalent of 1.25 million school breakfasts shared. Program ends 4/15/2013.

For the Love of Dogs

My dogs are more than just pets to us. They are a huge part of our family. They entertain us. They comfort us. They love us unconditionally. Mine bring a smile to my face on a daily basis. They give us cuddles and kisses. For some folks, this is hard to understand, for others they get it completely.

Gabbie

They seem to have an extra sense about them that we as humans don't get. Mine know when I am sad, stressed or feeling under the weather. They offer up extra attention and comfort in times of need. While none of mine are “therapy dogs” there are those that provide unconditional love, love given that can help people with illnesses or in need of certain therapy. Many are trained to help people with disabilities. Many are trained to detect life-threatening diseases. Many are trained to simply visit with humans that need a little comfort and reassurance.

I have a friend whose dog kept licking her arm in a certain place. Over and over again. She eventually went to the doctor and they found skin cancer in the exact place that her dog kept licking. I have another friend who has a daughter who had to have a heart transplant and was given a dog that stays constantly by her child's side and watches over that child on a daily basis. As you see, dogs can be so much more than just a pet.

Studies have shown that pet owners live a longer life than people who choose to live without the companionship of a pet. Cesar believes that a relationship with a dog can truly improve every life, including people in need. Dogs are capable of lowering stress, anxiety and even blood pressure.

Cesar has created the Share a Story and Share the Love initiative, a social media campaign to help support and spotlight therapy dog organizations, to ensure people in need continue to receive the powerful benefits of a dog’s unconditional love. The Share a Story and Share the Love campaign encourages dog lovers to share the heartwarming stories of therapy dogs through their social media communities such as Facebook and Twitter. In return, Cesar will share the love with three therapy dog organizations through donations that help continue the services they provide to people in need.

Together,we can raise awareness for therapy dogs and the benefits they bring to people in need. It’s easy to get involved in the Share a Story and Share the Love campaign. Simply visit cesar.com/therapydogs to see the real-‐life stories of therapy dogs spreading their love and simply share those stories with others through your social media communities like Facebook and Twitter. With your help, CESAR can continue to donate to therapy dog organizations across the country.

In 2012, CESAR® is committed to donating $100,000 to help support therapy dogs and all they do to help people in need. The donation will be distributed to three charity partners:

I am not a quitter. While I would really like to be a quitter today…I’m not. It isn’t in me. I have been searching for the right place to stay near Fort Hood TX that won’t cost a fortune and it is driving me crazy that I can’t seem to find just the right place. I think finding a blackhead remover that works would be much easier.

We would really like a cabin, chalet, or something of that sort but there just isn’t much to be found. So if you live in the Fort Hood TX area and know of something that I might not be seeing please let me know. We will be there June 2nd through June 5th. Matthew needs some home cooking so we would like to have a kitchen and 2 bedrooms.
