Our heat pump broke late Thursday night, or in the wee hours Friday morning,  so we have been without central heat for 6 days. Let me tell ya, it hasn’t been fun. But, with a fireplace we have survived by camping out in the living room.

Thanks to a wonderful friend and a depleted bank account, we now have heat!

Last year just about every appliance in my house broke. And while the heat pump actually broke in 2010, this year looks to be shaping up to be about the same. After Mike left from getting the heat fixed I went to put a load of clothes in my dryer and it broke…AGAIN. This is about the 4th or 5th time with this piece of no good junk of a dryer. Of course it is out of warranty. While I love the brand this particular model has been a lemon from day one and it was so expensive that I felt bad even thinking of replacing them. Now, I have spent way more on the continuous repairs that I probably could have bought several new pairs. One day I am going to finally give up on them and throw them out the door.

In other news Abigail is in heat and every dog within a 10 mile radius is probably going to show up on my doorsteps. So, she will be soon having a playdate with Jethro and we will be sending out baby thank you cards.

Erin and Tate have both started back to school. The first week of December Tate had finished all of his curriculum that I bought back in July so we have had to start all over again. So, we took most of December off while I research what we wanted to study next and so that we could celebrate all of the Holidays without worrying about working school into the mix.

Now, it’s time to figure out supper and head out to karate. I sure hope 2011 started out better for you!

I really wasn’t sure that I would after the year that we have had around here. It was the year of breakage apparently.

The washer, the dryer, the vacuum, the stove, my computer and well…the list just keeps going (I kept wondering if I was going to be next). The year 2010 ended with a BIG bang when our heat went out at some point really early on Friday morning. Lucky for us we have a wonderful friend who specializes in Heat and Air issues. Unlucky for us we live in HickTown and Friday was a Holiday. Meaning, there was no place open to get any parts and everything had to wait until Monday. It hasn’t been too bad, the weather was relatively mild all weekend until last night when it got down into the low 20′s. We are also really lucky in the fact that we have a fireplace. We didn’t have a lot of wood on hand though which will be remedied as soon as I can order a load because after almost starting a war over 10 pieces of wood I never want to have to rely on anyone again, plus the guy that sells wood around these parts is pretty easy on the eyes! In other news, if you ever hear of an arsonist in HickTown you can rule me out. I have found out that I can not get the fire going nor can I keep it going.

So, without any regret…I say GOODBYE! to 2010. I am in no way sorry to see that year go. It was a hard year in many different ways and I think it had a very profound effect on everyone I know.

Hello 2011! Oh 2011, I hope that you have wonderful things in store for each and every one of us!

I really don’t make resolutions but I do hope to change a few things in my life this year. One of the main ones being my sleep habits. But for now I am going to raid one of the medicine cabinets and find something for this busting headache and curl up on the couch with my snuggie and all the dogs. And in case you ever need to know…dogs make great heaters!

southern by grace

Heat in the South is different from heat in the North. People that aren’t from around here don’t really get that until they come for a visit in July or August.

Then, they get it…and they truly understand.

See, it is HUMID. It is a heavy, smothering heat. And it is here early this year.

I was in the grocery store earlier this week and there were a couple of older men in line in front of me. I wasn’t trying to be nosy but I couldn’t help but hear their conversation. It went something like this:

Man#1: “Shore is hot”

Man # 2: “Yeah tis”

Man # 1: “Gotta garden a goin this year?”

Man # 2: “Naw, its too hot this year for me ta get out thar much.”

Man # 1: “Yeah, bought make ya so sluggish that ya was born tired and raised lazy.”

I think that about says it all. Hope you have a great day and an even better weekend!

Don’t ya just love how easy it is? Me Too!! If you remember, I am not allowed to make an actual pot of coffee. Bric banned me from that years ago so when I was first introduced to a Keurig, I was THRILLED! I can now make a cup of coffee and it turns out perfect every time. No guess work…ok, so there isn’t any work involved at all. I love all of the different flavors and varieties that Green Mountain Coffee offers and I am really loving the Brew Over Ice varieties and the fact that I can have an Iced Coffee anytime I want without have to leave the house and without paying a fortune.

Speaking of saving money…you can get more information about the Brew Over Ice K-Cups AND get a $1.00 off coupon for Brew Over Iced K-Cups at: http://www.greenmountaincoffee.com/brew-over-ice.aspx
