Here at The Post-It Place we are in full-fall-swing. Gearing up for all the fall festivals, trips to the apple house and preparing for Halloween!! So in preparation for Halloween, what is more fitting that spooks and haunts?

13 Stories Haunted House Logo

One of our recent adventures was to the 13 Stories Haunted House located in Kennesaw GA, located behind the Town Center Mall. The whole way there I kept telling my family that I hope it was scary, and I was hoping it wasn’t too scary. Yeah, makes a lot of sense…NOT. But that is the way I felt. Anxious and excited we arrived, found our destination and then went to eat. They do not open their doors until dark so we had a little time to spare. As we sat down to eat I couldn’t help but think that eating before hand might not be the best idea.

Once dark hit we headed back to the 13 Stories Haunted House location and I prepared myself for the haunts that awaited. But first, let me tell you a little about the history of 13 Stories. As a young’un Allyn Glover was bored. See, he grew up in a small town much like where I live…with nothing to do. So I can just imagine that one night around the dinner table as he and his sister were complaining about being bored his parents telling them to figure out something to entertain themselves. That is when the idea came about to start a hayride, down a haunted trail. They implemented their idea, made it all come to life and now 28 years later they have one of the best haunted houses around. People come from all over to visit the original site located in Newnan, GA and the newer site in Kennesaw GA. As we were waiting our turn to go in I got to visit with Allyn’s Mom and Sister and several of the staff, talk about a great bunch of folks. One of the things that impressed me the most was how everyone of the staff talked about how they are all a big family, and that they all return year after year after year to work at the Haunted House. And you can tell…they have a LOT of fun!

As you wait for your turn you will see some of their “crowd pleasers” wandering around. They are happy to stop and pose for pictures with you if you are brave enough to ask. I just hope we are all smiling this much when we come out…that is if we survive! And yes, the big Ogre is “alive”. The Zombie, well, he is “dead”. Undead that is.

I can’t spoil how it goes once you enter. I mean really what fun would it be if you knew what awaited at every corner? I can tell you it is worth it! I can tell you that one person in our group pee’d their pants. I can tell you that it wasn’t me but it almost happened to me as well. See, they stuck me up front. My heart got quite the cardio workout. And then when I saw this…

…I wanted to curl up in the corner and suck my thumb and forget where I was at for a moment or two. If you get inside and are not sure you can make it all the way through, they have “chicken doors”. There were 3 times that I would have been happy to use a chicken door. I am so glad that I didn’t and that I made it all the way through. I HIGHLY recommend that you visit 13 Stories Haunted House!! Then you will know at exactly which 3 points I wanted to chicken out.

When you see this guy. Run! He wants to eat your brains. He is quite the gentleman though, he even says please.

And this Imp, he is an Imp! Always up to some mischief and mayhem.

And then the Grim Reaper came to visit me.

I am still wondering if I really made it out alive,

or maybe I just think I am still alive.

I have been hearing about 13 Stories Haunted House for years and I knew it was something that we wanted to do this year and something that I wanted to tell all of you about. It really is a fabulous attraction to visit. We were not disappointed at all. If you are interested in visiting 13 Stories Haunted House you can see the dates, times and even get a coupon by visiting their website. You can follow along by liking their Facebook Fan Page and follow them on Twitter.

Some people have asked me is it really scary? Yes, and I am not sure that this will make sense but it was just scary enough…not too scary and not too little scary. Yeah, told you it wasn’t going to make sense, but it does in my mind, and well, we all know what a scary jumbled place that is. And in full-disclosure I want to say that I contacted 13 Stories Haunted House about us visiting, they welcomed us with open arms. So while we did receive tickets, all of the opinions stated are those of my own and were in no way influenced by anyone or anything.

I love Chattanooga. If you haven’t been in awhile you should definitely make the trip. There are so many great things to do in the city and surrounding areas that you could spend weeks and still not get everything in.

Hope with Chattanooga Ghost Tours

Recently we spent the evening with Chattanooga Ghost Tours and had a fabulous time. We met up at the Market Street Bridge then started our tour around the city. You will learn about many haunted sites as well as a ton of history. Our tour guide, Hope, is a fabulous storyteller and historian. We enjoyed every moment we spent in her presence.

Hunter Museum of Art

Here at the Hunter Museum of Arts the mansion is reported to have the most identifiable ghosts of any other place in the city. While on the tour you will learn about each ghost, their name and the story behind each one. It was fascinating. I grew up in a house built in the 1800′s that was reported to be haunted. We had many encounters with our ghost over the years that we lived in that house, but that is another story for another time. It does give you a little background as to why I find reported hauntings so fascinating though.

Chattanooga Ghost Tours

One thing that I learned is that even new buildings can be haunted. I learned why as well.

Did you know that?

Hope with Chattanooga Ghost Tours

We stopped at many different places to hear about the treasures that Chattanooga holds.

Each as fascinating as the last.

Chattanooga Ghost Tours

This location however held our attention like no other.

I can’t tell you why, you will have to take the tour to find that out. I will tell you this though, Hope is the only guide that will take you there. And this is the only location that Hope was ever truly scared at. And I have to say, you do get tingles on the back of your neck just passing by. You get the feeling of being watched. And you get the feeling that it isn’t a place you would want to be there alone.

Named 1 of the top ten ghost tours in the country by TripAdvisor, Chattanooga Ghost Tours Inc offers both tours and a ghost hunt featuring the talking Ovilus X!  It is recommended that you make a reservation to go on the tour. You also have the option of choosing their extended tour on certain nights.

Make sure you wear your walking shoes. While the tour takes you on about a 12 block walk it is a leisurely pace, taking about 2 hours and isn’t hard to do at all. I made it just fine…and y’all all know what a couch potato I am. It is also wheelchair and stroller friendly. You can read more about the tour at Chattanooga Ghost Tours, and get answers to all the questions you may have. And you can follow them on Facebook and Twitter as well. They are just getting started on Twitter and would love for you to give them a follow and a shout-out!!

If you are thinking of going in October, you might want to go ahead and make your reservations now. While they are open year round, October is their busiest month.

I love Halloween, but I am not into the scary part of it. I like the fun side. I like to watch the little kids as they trick and treat. I like seeing all of the creative costumes that are on the market these days.

halloween

Happy Halloween to you all. I hope you have a wonderful day filled with ghosts and goblins running everywhere. We do not go Trick or Treating anymore. As mine got older they realized that it was a LOT of work for a little bounty. Driving long distances between house gets boring to them. So, we started a tradition in our house. They get a whole bag of candy, their choice, and we get out of trick or treating. Tate decided he should up the ante this year and stated he wanted a video game. Ummm, yeah, that’s not gonna happen.

Last night we had an impromptu party of sorts. Tate had invited a friend over to play video games earlier in the week and it just sort of grew from there. We ended up having about 10 over and they had a bonfire, food and fun. I got to connect with an old acquaintance. Tate has been hanging out some with a girl from his karate class and when her Mom brought her over we had the opportunity to sit and talk, turns out we hung out with a lot of the same people back in the day. And we also had the same stomping grounds so we are positive that our paths crossed many times. It is going to be great getting to know her better and trading stories. We are already planning our next get together.

Today, we are hanging close to the house I think, keeping quiet. We have talked about going to a haunted house, but nothing has been decided upon. I wish I was going to be spending the day looking at tiles. I want to rip my carpet up and put tile floors down so bad. But, whatever you are doing tonight, don’t let the ghouls get you!
