gooey caramel apple bar

Meet my Gooey Caramel Apple Bars.

You will be singing praises and hollering OhMyStnkinHeck this is good!

The fact that it is super easy to make is just a bonus.

gooey caramel apple bar ingredients

All you need is a yellow cake mix, a stick of butter, a large apple (I use Granny Smith), a tub of caramel dip and a can of evaporated milk.

Mix the cake mix with the stick of butter (which has been softened) and a 1/3 of a cup of evaporated milk until a dough forms.

I use a fork and just mash it all together.

diced apples

Dice the apple. You will think that one apple isn’t going to be enough but when you dice it into small pieces it goes a long way and will be plenty. Do not use large pieces or it won’t cook enough.

bar mix and diced apples

Press half of the dough into a 9 X 13 pan that has been greased and bake for about 8 minutes. Then sprinkle the apples on top.

top with caramel

Place the caramel dip in the microwave for 30-45 seconds so that it will be pliable enough to spread, then spread over the top.

top with remaining dough

Crumble the rest of the dough over the top. It will seem a little sticky but will crumble or just pinch small pieces and place on top.

Bake on 350 degrees for 18-20 minutes.

GOOEY CARAMEL APPLE  BARS

1 tub caramel dip (use the brand of your choice or what you can find)

1 pkg.  yellow cake mix

1/2 c. butter, melted

1/3 c. evaporated milk

Grease and flour 13 x 9 inch pan. Mix cake mix, butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Mix until dough holds together. Press 1/2 of the dough in pan and bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Sprinkle the apples over baked crust. Then spread caramel mixture over it and crumble rest of dough on top. Return to oven and bake 18-20 minutes. Cool slightly and then refrigerate about 30 minutes to set caramel. Cut into bars and serve.

Now, if you are like us we just couldn’t wait to dig in. So we let it cool for a little bit and then dug in. It is also great if it is still a little warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!!
