Thanks to my buddy Tom Murrell for the post.

Travelling involves more than just getting your airplane reservations and a taxi to the airport. If you will be leaving your home for an extended period of time, you will need to make arrangements to keep your home and your household goods protected from theft, fire and flood. Your first steps should be to pull out all appliances from connections with any electrical outlets. You should have your outdoor automatic sensor controlled lights checked to insure that they will work while you are gone. And you should set your security alarm and test it before leaving the house. If you don’t have one and you live in Arizona like me, you should look for the best burglar alarm equipment in Arizona. A home security system can be purchased at a monthly fee from home security specialists or you can find an inexpensive alarm system, follow installation instructions on the package and avoid monthly fees. Protecting your home while you are travelling is important. In case of flooding or fire, you can travel quietly knowing that severe damage to your home will be reported to police and fire departments by your security system as well as attacks by burglars to your premises.

On the way home from Asheville I traveled 64 most of the way in. 64 brought me by the Ocoee which is where the Olympic Canoe and Kayak competitions were held in 1996. It is some beautiful country and a very popular place for river rats to congregate and play and it is only about an hour from my house. Due to all of the rains that we have been having lately the river was VERY high. I was amazed that there were people on the river. I was thinking the whole time that I hope those people had gotten some term life insurance rates.

The river was not only high…it was flowing really really fast.

I love to go rafting, but there was no way in the world that I would have ventured out on the river in the shape that it was in.

There was even water spurting out of the mountains at every turn and making the road like a slip and slide.

All of the rains have made it a beautiful site to behold. But I am so thankful that it has FINALLY quit raining here.

Yesterday we had a little reprieve from all of the rain that we have been having. It was so nice to see the sun shine, even if it isn’t to last. We are scheduled for more rain…and then even more rain. Thank goodness that we are not effected by the flooding, but I know many people that are, either directly or indirectly. How can you be indirectly effected? Well, when it floods water sources are contaminated, there are power outages, etc. So while I have some family and friends whose houses are flooded, I have others who have no water and power. Directly, Indirectly. Cause, Effect. If the rain keeps up like they say…we are all going to be so shriveled up and wrinkly that even the top wrinkle creams on the market won’t help.

And what about HickTown? Well, the main little shopping center always floods, even when it just rains a regular rain. There were some trees downed in places and a few roads closed here and there, but we were not effected as bad as a lot of surrounding areas…that is one benefit to living in the foothills of the mountains.

I am packing and getting ready to go tomorrow to the Type A Mom conference in Asheville NC. Asheville is a beautiful place and worth a visit. One of the big draws to Asheville is The Biltmore House and surrounding estate.

Till then, I hope you all stay dry and have a wonderful weekend while I am out playing in the mountains.
