Sigh.

I took Chuka to a Spa Day at Petco today.

We went 6 weeks ago and he had the best time with a groomer name Jessie. She was fabulous with him and he came home looking and smelling great. It was his birthday when he went, and she pampered him like every pooch turning one should be pampered. And I guess we got spoiled by her. This is how he came home looking:

my Yorkie Chuka

He was so handsome. And he was so proud of how he looked.

Then today, we learned a big lesson the hard way. I had asked that Jessie cut him when I made the appointment for today. As we arrived she was there waiting on him…or so I thought. She checked him in, told me she would give me a call in a few hours when he was ready and wisked him away to the back for his day of pampering.

As I arrived back about 2 and a half hours later, there was Chuka in the grooming station being cut by someone else. I had high hopes that he would come out all handsome as before but when she was finally finished, this is what he looked like:

Chuka's bad haircut

I knew he didn’t really look right, but was having a hard time putting my finger on exactly why it was such a bad haircut. It is choppy for one thing.

Chuka's Bad Petco Haircut

Another is that part of it flops. It is just a REALLY bad haircut! So disappointed, especially for what we pay.

Chuka's bad Petco haircut

As I was talking to a friend of mine about it she said “OMG, why did they cut him like a Schnauzer?”

And well, that is it…he is a Yorkie with a Schnauzer haircut.

He looks like a little old man now.

And every time one of us looks at him he just hangs his head.

Even he knows he has a bad haircut.

So, the lesson for the day is this: MAKE SURE you ask around about groomers. Make sure that the person you pick to cut your dog is the one who actually does the job. And if you go to Petco, make sure to pop in to double check.

I did call the manager, and he offered to let me bring Chuka back in about a week to see if it can be fixed but I don’t think it will grow out enough by then to help much. And if not, I can possibly get a refund. That makes yet ANOTHER trip to Dalton, 30 minutes away to see if we can get this dog looking normal again.

Just Sigh…

For the Love of Dogs

the 3 muskateers

My dogs are more than just pets to us. They are a huge part of our family. They entertain us. They comfort us. They love us unconditionally. Mine bring a smile to my face on a daily basis. They give us cuddles and kisses. For some folks, this is hard to understand, for others they get it completely.

Gabbie

They seem to have an extra sense about them that we as humans don't get. Mine know when I am sad, stressed or feeling under the weather. They offer up extra attention and comfort in times of need. While none of mine are “therapy dogs” there are those that provide unconditional love, love given that can help people with illnesses or in need of certain therapy. Many are trained to help people with disabilities. Many are trained to detect life-threatening diseases. Many are trained to simply visit with humans that need a little comfort and reassurance.

Roxie

I have a friend whose dog kept licking her arm in a certain place. Over and over again. She eventually went to the doctor and they found skin cancer in the exact place that her dog kept licking. I have another friend who has a daughter who had to have a heart transplant and was given a dog that stays constantly by her child's side and watches over that child on a daily basis. As you see, dogs can be so much more than just a pet.

Studies have shown that pet owners live a longer life than people who choose to live without the companionship of a pet. Cesar believes that a relationship with a dog can truly improve every life, including people in need. Dogs are capable of lowering stress, anxiety and even blood pressure.

Cesar has created the Share a Story and Share the Love initiative, a social media campaign to help support and spotlight therapy dog organizations, to ensure people in need continue to receive the powerful benefits of a dog’s unconditional love. The Share a Story and Share the Love campaign encourages dog lovers to share the heartwarming stories of therapy dogs through their social media communities such as Facebook and Twitter. In return, Cesar will share the love with three therapy dog organizations through donations that help continue the services they provide to people in need.

Together,we can raise awareness for therapy dogs and the benefits they bring to people in need. It’s easy to get involved in the Share a Story and Share the Love campaign. Simply visit cesar.com/therapydogs to see the real-‐life stories of therapy dogs spreading their love and simply share those stories with others through your social media communities like Facebook and Twitter. With your help, CESAR can continue to donate to therapy dog organizations across the country.

In 2012, CESAR® is committed to donating $100,000 to help support therapy dogs and all they do to help people in need. The donation will be distributed to three charity partners:

Chuka and Roxie

In December of 2011 a new guy came into my life.  He was a cute little ball of fur.

As we were trying to decide on a name for him I mentioned that he looked like an Ewok. So, we looked up names of Ewok’s and decided upon Chuka. As Chuka grew…so did his mischievous nature.

one of Chuka's messes

This is just one of the many, many messes that I would walk in on. It was worse than a 2 year old. I couldn’t turn my head for a minute or I would find some mess or another.

my sweet boy Chuka

And then he would look at me with those big eyes, huge ears and sweet, sweet face.

I fell in love with him over and over again, day after day.

another mess made by Chuka

Then, he would do something else. Nothing was safe.

Chuka has a comb over

Even with a comb-over he is too cute for words.

Chuka loves to sit at the table

He found his place at our table, in our lives and in our hearts.

we love it when Chuka sleeps

But ohhhh goodness, I loved it when he would sleep.

That meant I knew he wasn’t getting into something.

Chuka is a cutie

He definitely has made our lives interesting, our hearts grow and keeps us on our toes.

Golly I love the little guy.

If you are my friend on Facebook you see him often, but thought those that aren’t might also like to hear the tale of Chuka. See, he typically makes an almost daily appearance on Facebook with one of his antics or another. If you want to get to know him better you are welcome to join us there.

Anyway, all that to say…Chuka’s Birthday is TOMORROW!!

I can’t believe he is going to be a year old. Today, he is going in for a spa day. He is getting his hair trimmed, his nails cut, and who knows what all else. But you can bet you will get to see his new haircut tomorrow on Facebook as we celebrate his big day!!

Our dogs are full-fledged members of our family. We are very open with guests in our home….our dogs LIVE here. They are friendly, they like to play. They like to welcome guests into our home. Gabby is more likely to jump in your lap and have a seat than not, she is a true lap dog. Chuka…well, Chuka is still a pup and he wants to be in your face…he has a licker license and knows how to use it very well. They sit on the furniture. Heck, Chuka even sits at the table.

Chuka loves to sit at the table

And we love each of them dearly.

With all the love our dogs bring to our lives, Cesar wants us to show them how much we love them back. Giving our dogs a well balanced food that has the nutrients in it that our dogs need is very important to us. We want them to be as healthy and happy as possible. While Chuka is still young and has a long life ahead of him our little Gabby is 15 years old. While we realize that they don’t live forever, we want her to remain a part of our lives for as long as possible. Therefore, they need the Best Dog Food available.

New CESAR® Meaty Selects come in a resealable 10-ounce can bursting with tender meaty chunks. Meaty Selects can be served alone or as a delicious compliment to your dog’s favorite dry food. We feed the little ones Food for Small Dogs but Chuka also gets dry dog food. Since Gabby has no teeth anymore all she receives is soft food.

If you are looking to change your dogs food please remember that when transitioning from one Food for Dogs to another, please remember to introduce the new food gradually so as not to upset your dog’s stomach.

    • For the first two days or so, your dog’s meals should be about 75% old food and 25% new food. Mix the two foods together, don’t keep them separated.
    • If the first couple of days of the transition go smoothly, you can mix 50% of your dog’s old food with 50% of the new food on days 3 and 4.
    • On days 5 and 6, your dog’s meals should be about 75% new food and only 25% of the old food.
    • On day 7 let your dog enjoy 100% of the new Cesar dog food!
