Here is my entry this week:

my platinum clink

This is one of my favorite drinks, especially during the summer. And it is SUPER easy to make and is going to look fabulous in your sparkling glasses. I recently made these for myself and some young girls I had visiting for the day. They loved that I got out the “cool” glasses for them. We had a fabulous time sipping on our treats, munching on popcorn and lounging in and by the pool.

Here is all you need: Some Ginger Ale, A tube of punch (like goes in a water bottle), some ice and a glass. Place ice in glass, sprinkle the punch over the ice and fill with Ginger Ale. Stir.

Seriously, that is it! You have a delicious sparkly drink to go in your sparkling, shiny glasses!

It is so true that now, more than ever, people eat with their eyes, and the evidence is all over sites like Facebook and Instagram. With that in mind, Top Chef judge and editor of Food+Wine magazine, Gail Simmons, has partnered with Cascade to discuss why  presentation is just as important as preparation. Here are some great tips from Simmons to help you make your food look it’s best:
· From prep to plating: It’s more than just a great-tasting recipe, but also perfect presentation. Sparkling dishes, shining flat ware and spot-free glasses truly let you put your best food forward with culinary creations that pop!
· Gail recommends impressing with a Platinum Presentation: “The easiest recipes pop with unexpected, gourmet presentations. Drizzle bright sauces on sparkling white plates or layer desserts in crystal-clean glassware. Keep your presentation sparkling with Cascade Platinum, which keeps dishes perfect for anytime entertaining and impromptu guests.”

I love it when fresh corn starts coming in from the fields. I always get LOTS extra to put in the freezer for later but the problem with that is that you have to blanch corn before putting it away. It is typically a long and tedious process and makes a huge mess in my kitchen. Blanching is the scalding of vegetables in boiling water or steam. Blanching slows or stops the action of enzymes. Up until harvest time, enzymes cause vegetables to grow and mature. If vegetables are not blanched, or blanching is not long enough, the enzymes continue to be active during frozen storage causing off-colors, off-flavors and toughening. Once you blanch it, it has to completely dry. Like I said…it’s a process.

Sooo, I heard about an unusual process to blanch corn and I just had to try it. It sounds bizarre, but it totally works and is MUCH faster and easier than the traditional way.

dishwasher corn

All you have to do is shuck the corn, lay it in the dishwasher and turn it on the rinse and dry cycle (DO NOT ADD SOAP). THAT IS IT!!!

Once finished it is blanched AND dried and ready to go into freezer bags and frozen for later. Ta-Da, you are done and in a fraction of the time.

We recently celebrated my son Tate’s 16th birthday. We cooked a boatload of food and the results of that was a boatload of dishes. The one thing that Tate asked for was sticky chicken. Now, as you can imagine by the name…it is sticky. Which makes for hard to clean dishes. Now, cook 20 pounds of that…and that folks is how you get a boatload of…

…some really hard to clean dishes.

Perfect for trying out the new Cascade Platinum Pacs

Normally, I almost wash my dishes before placing them in the dishwasher, but I didn’t with these. I simply rinsed the majority of the mess off and decided to try and see if they would really come clean or not.

I placed a Cascade Platinum pac in the compartment and said a little prayer. Why would I say a little prayer about my dishes? Well, because if this doesn’t really work that mess is REALLY going to be stuck on!

It actually WORKS!

Seriously, just look!!!

I am amazed, and thrilled!

Cascade Platinum

In this house…we have a TON of dishes. Between everyday meals, entertaining family and friends and constantly cooking something they pile up pretty fast. Our dishwasher gets run daily, plus we still have to hand wash some of them…because they are either pans or antiques…or the dishwasher is just too full to hold them all.

Another thing, we always pre-rinse our dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. I really wish I could feel confident enough about our current dishwashing detergent to skip that step but it already leaves streaks on my glassware so I don’t feel like I can trust it enough to not have to pre-rinse. Do you pre-rinse your dishes? Well, I am going to be trying out a product that hopefully will eliminate that chore for all of us!!

Cascade© Platinum Pacs deliver the most powerful clean available from Cascade while simultaneously helping to maintain the sparkling look of your clean dishwasher interior. Cascade© Platinum Pacs feature an advanced triple action recipe that is specially designed to leave dishware virtually spot-free and help prevent the build-up of hard-water film on dishwasher walls.*

*Use a dishwasher cleaner to remove existing build-up on wall interiors.
