I was one of those kids in high school that made good grades without ever really trying. I was never really interested in being there though. But, I went and at the first moment possible, I graduated early. It just wasn’t my thing, I was more interested in the party scene at the time than making a future for myself. Right out of high school I went to college, majoring in Business Marketing and Management. I quickly found out that it took a little more studying time than I was used to. Then, my Dad got sick and I dropped out to help with his care, only liking about a year to get my degree. I wasn’t really appreciative of my time at college though. I was really only there because it was what I thought I was supposed to do. After my Dad had a liver transplant and was on the mend, I decided to go back to college. I was at a different place in my life by that time and took things a little more seriously. But, I didn’t go finish my degree. Instead I chose to go a totally different route and went to school to become an EMT. While I loved my job as a medic it is a very strenuous career. It is hard mentally, physically and emotionally. There came a time when I just knew that my time as a medic was over.

Every since, I have thought about going back to school. Getting a degree, or just taking some classes that interested me. Why? Well, something I have learned about myself is that I love learning. When my friend Beth started college last year I was a little envious…but why the heck can’t I go myself? There is no good reason! And what better time to make that decision than the start of this New Year? I can’t think of one. This is the time of year that we all start reflecting on how to make improvements to ourselves. We re-assess our goals and strive a little harder. We make resolutions such as going back to school, getting a better job, learning a new skill, taking a class, or picking up a hobby. I have tried hobbies. I am just not good at them. As a matter of fact, I have been told by different people on different occasions to give thoughts of sewing, crocheting, kitting, etc up.

So, I am researching going back to college. Online. Because really, if I had to actually get up and get ready in the morning, it wouldn’t happen. But, I can happily sit in the comfort of my home, in my pajamas and go to school. Check out Ivy Bridge CollegeIvy Bridge College (IBC) is committed to Moms, 50% of their students are Mothers as a matter of fact.

· IBC offers flexibility and convenience with the ability for Moms to earn their degree while they continue to work or while they stay at home to raise their children.

· IBC offers support services including a free online private community dedicated to students who are Moms where they can connect with and support other student Moms.

· Some of the other great support services IBC offers are:

○ Dedicated weekly success coaching which includes career planning, resumé writing and interviewing skills

○ Free tutoring

○ Personalized academic advising and guided pathways to earning an accredited college degree

○ Ability to earn a college degree in as little as 17 months IBC is designed for students to earn their associate’s degree and then seamlessly transfer to over 150 “name brand” partner schools, including Arizona State University, the University of Maryland, Pace University, Pepperdine University, Rutgers University, George Mason University, among others.

· After earning an associate’s degree many students choose to pursue a 4-year degree, but transferring from other two-year schools can be a very complicated process. Students often waste credits, time and money on courses that ultimately won’t transfer. Ivy Bridge College solves this problem by establishing clearly articulated transfer agreements with each of their partner schools to eliminate this headache. They have mapped out success paths so their students aren’t wasting time or money. To see all of IBC’s partner schools, click here: http://ivybridge.tiffin.edu/transfer-programs/partneruniversities

· IBC costs less than 1/3 of what it costs to attend other private schools (as per the College Board)

· People who hold an associate’s degree on average earn 20% more and those with a bachelor’s earn 65% more than those with only a high school diploma. And I think we are all going to need hope at a higher income very soon.

The past couple of years have been pretty rough around here.  Don’t get me wrong, we are grateful for so much and so many but well, rough is rough. we have had a prowler since December of 2010 and he just doesn’t seem to want to let up and the local law agency is not much help…and therefore want to blame it on us or the neighbors. But, that isn’t the story for today, it will however be coming soon…when I am at liberty to say all that I want to say about it. Today is about the effects of it all.

Now, when you have crazy situations going on in your life it takes a toll on you. Emotionally, mentally and physically. And that all came to head for me recently. I was out and about and we stopped in at a Zaxby’s. I went to the counter and a young man greeted me and ask me for my order. I gave him my order and then… and then..

Oh, I just get tore up even thinking about it.

…he had the gall to ask me if I was eligible for THE SENIOR DISCOUNT.

REALLY? REALLY????

I wanted to die. I wanted to ball up in a fetal position and lay in the floor. I wanted to cry. Right then. Right there.

(cue the creepy doom music made with Sibelius 6 plays)

I was just floored…and speechless. I mean what do you say? In my mind I am still young. I mean really, 42 is young right? And their senior discount is for 50 and over. I still have 8 years to go. Surely I don’t look that old. I mean I know I have bags under my eyes from lack of sleep. I know I have little worry lines here and there. But do I really LOOK 50?

And then, as my thought process went on and on, over and over this whole ordeal I realized:

OhhhMyStinkinHeck!! I ONLY have 8 years to go before I am ELIGIBLE for the senior discount. What happened to being 30? That was just yesterday. And 20 was only the day before that. I am not kidding…don’t you laugh!

I really have to go. You will find me in a fetal position in the middle of the floor. I might be there awhile.

If you know me at all, you know how cheap frugal I am. I am all about saving a penny where ever I can. I started couponing because if I didn’t we would no longer be able to eat. We were at a point in our lives where our out-going exceeded our incoming. We HAD to cut back in every way possible.

We got to a point where we could sigh. Not really breath yet, but we could sigh. Then I kept on looking at ways to save more and more in different ways. Now that we can breath a little (sometimes)…I am still cheap in every way possible. Friends and family make fun of me for it, but oh well, I like knowing that we can eat. And READ. I have always loved to read and would read any and everything I could get my hands on but books can get expensive. And when you can read a book in a matter of hours, it really gets expensive.

Now with all of the electronic readers on the market you can get any book in a matter of minutes without ever leaving your house. Did you know that you can also download a Kindle app for your computer? No need to buy a device. They also have the apps for smart phones and tablets. Once you have the ability to read the books, how to go about getting the books? Well, I use Pixel of Ink.

Pixel of Ink sends out a daily e-mail listing FREE and discounted books available on the Kindle and Nook!!! Each day it is something different. LOVE, love, love them. I have already downloaded about 100 books….all for free!!

So, if you love to read but are looking for a way to save some money, check out Pixel of Ink. I think you will be so happy that you did!

“Pixel of Ink has no clue who I am. I just wrote this post to share with you how you can save some money and was in no way compensated”
