There are several meats that you can always find either on sale or marked down. That is chicken (either in drumsticks, quarters or thighs) and cube steak.

The thing with cube steak is that it can be pretty tough. I make it several different ways but this is our all-time favorite. It is so tender it just falls apart with the stir of a wooden spoon. Yep, seriously. It isn’t a pretty dish, but it sure is delicious! When Bric first saw it he was like eww, this looks like dog food…but after he tasted it he was really impressed. He also mentioned that it wasn’t like regular cube steak that you had to cut with a utility knife. He loved the taste and how tender it is. I also had a friend try it out and she says it is now her families favorite!!

I told you it wasn’ t pretty. But I do promise it is good!!

We like it with about everything. Here I served it with green beans, sweet potatoes and a crescent roll. But it is really good over rice or noodles or with mashed potatoes. That way you have something to smother in the gravy. We just sopped our gravy up with our crescent rolls this time…so if that is what you have, I give you permission to do the same.

Just don’t tell my Momma, she would have a hissie fit just thinking of me sopping something up on my plate and would berate me from here to yonder knowing I said it was ok for you to as well.

Congratulations to you all! I hope that you enjoy your new toy and can solve it without peeling the stickers off now. I have finally learned how and can almost solve it completely without even looking at the solution guide anymore. Be on the look out for some really neat stuff coming up in the next couple of weeks, it’s gonna be lots more fun than looking for Mercury insurance reviews!

rubik's cubeThe Rubik’s Cube celebrates its 30th birthday this year. That means 30 year of frustration, then learning how to cheat the cube by taking the stickers off and re-applying them to make it look as if you had solved the puzzle. I remember when they first came out (yep, showing my age here) and begging for one. I had to have it. Then I remember staying awake late at night for hours on end trying to figure out how to solve it. I never did learn how without cheating in some way but my cousin could solve one in just minutes. That used to make me so mad at him. Now that I am older and wiser, I can solve it without cheating. Ok, so I had a little help in the way of a pamphlet called You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube.

Now, there is a whole new “You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube” program (www.YouCanDoTheCube.com). It is designed to get youth engaged in math and science in a fun way with lesson plans built around the Cube help kids learn about problem-solving, teamwork, and other math disciplines like area, perimeter, volume, angles, and algorithms. Who knew that the Rubik’s Cube could teach so much? What a great teaching tool that makes learning tons of fun!!

There are competitions where individuals and teams can compete to win some really neat prizes. Educators and Communities can even host their own competitions and possibly even get them sponsored through the You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube site.

And if you just want to have fun…you should think about a Rubik’s Cube Party! Everyone can dress in solid colors that match the colors on the cube. You can even make a cake that looks like a Rubik’s Cube:

So sorry but most of my photos from the party are blurry, I think it was because I couldn’t quit laughing. SO I really only have one decent one of Tate being surprised that he was actually able to solve the Rubik’s Cube. I think he had a little coaching from his sister along the way though:

Since it’s release in 1980, the Rubik’s Cube has found its way into over 350 million homes and has continued to fascinate, bewilder and challenge millions of people. Today schools, camps, summer programs, parents and others are finding out just how beneficial the cube can be to teaching  important math concepts. The new You CAN Do The Cube initiative is a US Campaign aimed at teaching a new generation how to solve the Rubik’s Cube and experience the many benefits of this accomplishment. So visit You CAN Do The Cube and learn how to solve it for yourself. Teach someone else how to solve it. Print out a Certificate while you are there saying that you can. Throw a party. Just have FUN!
