This is a favorite side around here. We just love it beyond what words could describe. It is super easy to make and is also really quick for those nights when you need to throw something together for the family or to impress unexpected guests. I ALWAYS keep several cans of carrots on hand just [...]
When I make this bread it gets really quiet around my house. That means I make it often! Quiet around this place is SACRED! Usually there is a dull roar. But a roar none-the-less. And at times it is louder around here than a rock concert. So if I make something where everyone just sits around [...]
Recently when I was at the National Cornbread Festival I came across a booth that was selling Muscadine Juice. Not wine…JUICE! I was so thrilled…and then I tasted it. OhhhMyStinkinHeck, that is the best stuff I think I have ever put in my mouth. As a kid I can remember being at my grandparents house [...]
“Thanks to Seagate for supplying product for giveaway and some of the information in this post.” I have been a Mother for 22 years. Saying that out loud just seems absurd to me. It is so hard to fathom that I have a 22 year old and a 15 year old child. Think of the [...]
My poor office has been the catch all for too long. And it always seems to be the last room to get cleaned.
It had gotten so bad that I wouldn’t even go in there to work. I moved to the living room and made the couch my desk. It was just depressing.
Fellowes sent me a whole set of their decorative Bankers Boxes to help me get organized and get a jump start on my Spring cleaning. I love how easy they are to assemble! When I first pulled them out of the box I was a little intimated but the instructions are printed right on the box and are easy to follow.
The window lets you see what is enclosed at a glace and makes it easy to find exactly what you are looking for. And did you know that they are made from 60 percent recycled content, so they’re environmentally friendly!
Like cords. Lots and LOTS of cords. These seriously aren’t mine. Bric has about 10 million cords. Good gracious and Heaven forbid if you ever try to throw one away. I mean seriously, how many power cords does one person really need??? Apparently 10,000,001 according to Bric.
I am working on getting it all organized, and it is certainly MUCH better than it was…but still some to go. The Fellowes Bankers Boxes Stackable Storage are great for small spaces that need a lot of storage solutions to help get it organized and keep it that way. Normally I would use plastic totes or just shove everything in drawers, but then I have to find something, everything gets pulled back out and the whole cycle starts all over again.
Stackable Storage products come in a variety of sizes to suit your organization needs and throughout the month of April you can find special promotional pricing on www.amazon.com !
You can also enter the Fellowes Bankers Box ‘Messiest Closet’ Contest where you can enter to win a consultation with a professional organizer from the National Association of Professional Organizers and receive up to $500 in free Bankers Box Stackable

I try to keep things organized. I seriously do. When you see the picture I am about to show you though you are going to think “OhMyStinkinHeck, She doesn’t have an organized bone in her body”. But in my defense, I share this room with Bric. And anytime company is coming over, this is where all the over-flow goes. And anytime I have a blog post/review I am working on, this is where the stuff goes. Add in all Bric’s stuff and it just gets out of hand quickly. VERY quickly. And don’t any of yall tell him I took partial responsibility for this mess! I mean it…I like to blame it all on him and if he thinks I even took an ounce of the blame I will never hear the end of it.
The rest of my house has kinda went the way of this room as well. With Erin and Matt moving in we are bulging at the seams with people and stuff. But, it is time to Spring Clean!! We are going to be getting the house back in order, scrubbed down, evicting spiders, dust-bunnies be gone! Do you have a tattoo? Have you ever really wanted to get one but were afraid? There really isn't a reason to be…but here are some suggestions if you are considering it AND the info on the best Tattoo parlor I know.
The thing is, you have to be careful of where you get a tattoo. You need to make sure that the place is clean, that the artist is licensed and certified by their county and state. Make sure that their inspection is up to date and that there were no major violations. Don't feel bad asking to see all of their documents, most work really hard to make sure that they provide the safest environment as possible for both you and them.
Recently when one of our family friends decided to get some tattoos on his arm covered up, he knew he would be going to Unscarred Tattoo. Dennis Best, the owner of Unscarred Tattoos specializes in many things but he is KNOWN for his cover up work. He does such a fabulous job. But, he should, he knows his business. I mean he has been doing this for over 20 years. Dennis started tattooing in 1991 and opened up Unscarred Tattoo's in 1993. You can find the shop at 102 West Waugh Street Dalton GA. So, when Shadow asked if we wanted to tag along, I jumped at the chance. Ok, yeah, I know…who is Shadow and is that his real name…he is marrying one of our best friends daughter in January, and yes that is his real name. The one he was born with. We like him…just a little. And he likes my cooking.
So, you decide to get a tattoo. The next step is to decide what you want and where you want it. Then the tattoo artist has to draw up what they call a flash. Here TJ is working on a flash for one of their customers. TJ joined Dennis at the shop in 1997. He is a great tattoo artist as well but is especially known for piercings.
After the flash is completed, it is time for it to be transferred to the skin.
The flash provides a guide. An outline for the tattoo artist to go by.
Then, the ink starts.
Here Dennis is starting the tattoo with black ink. Shadow chose a pretty large and detailed design. Because of that it is going to be done in a few different sessions. During this session all of the black ink will be applied, the next session he will start with the color. Then once this part is complete and healed he will go back for other sections of the sleeve that he eventually wants completed. Ha, I am learning all kinds of tattoo lingo.
Here is the completed black ink. With all of the shadowing.
If you are unsure of what you want, they have tons of designs to choose from and can even custom design something for you. They can do just about anything, even portrait tattoos. All the rage I am seeing right now is the white tattoos. I really, really like those. Dennis recommends that you not sit for more than 6 hours at a time, but even that is too long for most people. So be aware that if it is a large or really detailed tattoo it may take going back a time or two to get it completed.
Here TJ is doing some touch-up and correction work on my niece Stephanie's tattoo. She got it at another shop and it was lacking some of the details that she wanted. So, they fixed her right up and made her a happy camper.
And THEN, she was telling TJ about how she had the cartilage in her ear pierced and how they (a different shop) had screwed that up. It never healed right and she eventually had to remove the earring and let it heal up. So, while we were there, TJ fixed her right up. He re-pierced her cartilage and I am happy to say that it is doing GREAT!
So, that is the process of getting a tattoo.
This is the one that my friend Justine is getting. It isn't finished but I wanted you to be able to see something else that Dennis was working on.
Unscarred Tattoo can also be found on Facebook. Make sure to like their page and if you ever have questions they will be more than happy to answer them for you. They are open by appointment and walk-in 11 AM until 11 PM Monday through Saturday and on Sundays by appointment only by calling 706-279-3212.
From now until January 31, 2013 you can purchase a $60 gift certificate for $50. You may purchase as many as you want to give yourself or a loved one a gift that lasts forever. That is what my son-in-law is getting for Christmas this year. He has been wanting a tattoo for a long time now but was afraid to use a shop in Texas where he is stationed with the Army. Because I trust Unscarred Tattoo I asked him to wait and get it while they are here for Christmas so that he would know that it would be done right and safely.
AND…
One lucky person is going to win a free piercing!

There are so many things to consider when looking at flooring options. Where to even start?? One of the big considerations in our house is price. Price of the flooring, materials needed to install the flooring, do we need to hire someone to install the flooring? It can really add up quickly!
One of the BEST flooring options we have found…Carpet Tiles. Ohhh my, I love them. They are easy to install, so easy in fact that even I can do it. They are affordable. No crazy tools needed to install it. They are easy to maintain and clean. And they are DURABLE! We visited Carpet Bargains, made our selections and got started. Since Carpet Bargains is local to me we were able to go in and see the selection in person before making our final decisions. But if you are’t local and would like to see and feel what a particular color looks like you can order samples and their customer service is SUPERB. They will help you make a choice that is right for the area you want it to go in. They have tiles for both residential and commercial buildings and they have different backing options…even some that are peel and stick.
Look at that backing! That means, no ruined and stinky padding. That means spills are easy to mop up. That means that if you clean spills up in a reasonable time it won’t ruin your sub-floor!
There are so many advantages that I have found to carpet tiles, all of which were HUGE pluses to us. Carpet tiles comes in MANY, MANY different styles and colors, making it easy to find something that will go with your decor and the feel of your home. I chose a darker color because we have a lot of traffic through here, we have 3 dogs and we have teens. While the carpet tiles are super easy to clean and most spills will not stain…I didn’t want to have to vacuum every day. You Mom’s know what I am talking about…you get that dreaded call from a friend in the area that would just love to drop by and see you…Oh, and they are going to be there in 5 minutes. That means all the dirty dishes go in the oven, the dirty clothes stashed in the closet and all the clutter and toys go under the bed, air freshener sprayed and there is no time to sweep or vacuum. Oh PLEASE, don’t give me that look, we have all been there. And I seem to find myself there quite often. So, I chose something darker, so if I have company showing up I could get away without trying to vacuum a whole room in 60 seconds flat.
Since it’s inception over 25 years ago, carpet tile has been the flooring of choice for extreme high traffic areas, such as airports, restaurants, hospitals, etc. Carpet tiles will outwear conventional carpet at least 2 to 1! And that folks is how it stole my heart.
In addition to being extremely durable, carpet tiles offer the distinct advantage of easy spot replacement. If an area is damaged, simply lift out the damaged carpet tile and trade it with an extra one left over from installation or one from a less obvious place – under a desk, sofa, or other less visible area. Check out my video later in the post to see just how easy they are to clean and replace…but lets talk about the ease of installation first.
To install carpet tiles you simply have to remove the old flooring. Making sure to pull up any staples, tacks, etc.
Once that is done, clean the sub-flooring very well. All of the dust and debris has to be gone. If there are any pits or uneven surfaces you are going to want to fill with putty and let dry completely or if they are raised you will need to sand them down.
Pick your starting point…and get started. We contemplated doing a basket weave style before I saw this particular pattern. If we had stuck with our original choice we would have needed to start in the middle of the room and worked out. But because of the style we chose as our final pick we could start on one side. Another great plus to these are that the seams don’t show once they are all in and have been walked on a little, or vacuumed.
To keep the tiles in place we are using the glue that was recommended by the manufacturer. It is a spray on adhesive and super easy to use. Spray a little in each of the 4 corners and a dot in the middle and simply stick the tile where it needs to go. Seriously!! I told you it was easy! The back even has arrows so you will know which way to place the tile so that the pattern all runs the same way. It is really hard to mess this up.
When you get to the opposite edge of where you started, you may need to cut some pieces to fit. All you will need for that is a straight edge ruler and a utility knife.
And…you are done! We got completely finished in ONE day. That was moving the furniture out, removing the old carpet, prepping the floor, installing the new carpet tiles and placing the furniture back in the room.We didn’t have to pay anyone to install it. We didn’t have to buy special tools.
Now, what happens if you spill something? Or need to replace a tile? Well, let me show you how easy and quick it is to clean or make repairs:
Please note that we used straight bleach in the video. The manufacturer does not recommend using straight bleach but a 10 to 20 percent bleach solution to clean with. That will be more than sufficient to get out most stains. I just wanted to show that if an accident with bleach happens, so long as you get it up your tiles should be ok. Some lightening may occur if it sits for a long period of time. You can find out more about Carpet Tiles and see colors and styles by visiting www.carpetbargains.com or www.bestcarpetvalue.com. “I was provided with a promotional product to help facilitate this post. All opinions are my own and we couldn’t be happier with the carpet tiles that we installed in our home!”
