Most kids I know are out of school this week…that means that parents everywhere will be hearing the “Mom, I’m bored” mantra. So, why not get your kids involved with the decorating by letting them made this fun and edible centerpiece for the table?

Candy Christmas Centerpiece

Candy Christmas Tree

Supplies:

•50 pieces of Starburst®

•30 pieces of red and green Skittles®

•Small 8″ or 10″ styrofoamtree form

•Royal icing and pastry bag

•2 pieces of Extra® silver gum foil

•Silver pipe cleaner for tree topper

Instructions:

1.Make a batch of royal icing according to instructions. (there are tons of different recipes for royal icing on the internet. Just find one that you like and make accordingly)

2.Using hands, mold about 50 pieces of assorted color Starbursts into leaf shapes.

3.Completely and evenly apply royal icing Styrofoam tree. Let tree sit until icing is almost dry, about 5 minutes.

4.Apply Starburst shaped leaves to tree: first flatten top of candy leaf slightly so icing has a surface to stick to tree. Apply small amount of icing to flat section and hold until leaf is secure on tree.

5.Continue to adhere leaves until tree is completely covered.

6.Let tree dry for an hour and then apply red and green Skittle “ornaments” to leaves with royal icing.

7.Using a pencil, draw two star shapes on the back of each Extra silver gum foil wrapper. Carefully cut out stars with scissors

8.Thread four foil stars onto 3″ piece of silver pipe cleaner.

9.Insert finished foil tree topper into top of tree.
