Today is a big day!

Stephanie

This little bit was born 22 years ago today. I took her with me to vote yesterday because she had never done so before and then she exercised her right as a citizen and voted herself!!

When she was born she would fit in the palm of your hand. She is a little bigger than that now, but not by much. She may be my niece but she has always been such a huge part of my life that she is like one of my own kids. So while she may be little bitty, she holds a big chunk of our hearts and I want to wish her the happiest of days today and hope all her wishes come true!!

And another birthday…

Charlie

Meet Charlie! Today is his birthday as well but yesterday was his big day.

He was adopted by my mother from an animal shelter yesterday, then took a trip to Petco and got a spa treatment. I have to say, Petco in Dalton GA was so fabulous!! He needed a bath something terrible and when they found out he had just found his forever home and was on his way home for the very first time they gave him the works, took super great care of him and pampered him silly.

And, I can’t leave out Chuka.

As we were celebrating Stephanie’s birthday he felt a little left out. So, he decided to grab something similar to one of those knee scooters for sale and go for a swim! He was a little unsure about it at first but he eventually came to love being in the pool with everyone. I think we ay be seeing him floating around catching some rays more often from now on…who knows, he may be surfing next.

Hope you have a great day!!

Tomorrow we are heading to Carter Camp for a big 4th of July celebration. I hope that you have a very happy and safe weekend filled with good food, family and friends!

I may be wishing I was curled up on the couch watching the tv on the tv stand by the end of the day, it is supposed to be a hot one. But at least I will be in the mountains next to a stream…eating lots of great food, listening to some good old fashioned pickin, and grinnin like a pig in a poke.

This year just about everyone I know has had to tighten the belt in at least one area of their life…most in several areas. It has made Christmas and New Years Celebrations a little more difficult for some.  Walmart heard the cry and has developed a website with tips, ideas and recipes for a very affordable Christmas Dinner for 8 and a New Year’s Eve Meal for 10.

You can check out the Walmart Holiday Meals website at:  http://www.walmart.com/holidaymeals so that you can learn more about the Christmas Dinner for Eight for as low as $20 and the New Year’s Eve meal for 10 under $40. In addition, you can find some great recipes from the Food Network’s Aaron Sanchez.

Chef Aarón Sánchez – co-star of Food Network’s exciting new series, Chefs vs. City as well as owner and executive chef of restaurants Paladar and Centrico – has always celebrated the holidays in signature Mexican-American fashion.

He has tips for making an extra-special holiday meal with a unique flare for as low as $30 with help from Walmart. The meal…

We had a fabulous Thanksgiving this year. I hope that you did as well. The day was spent with family, friends and lots of food. You just can’t get much better than that. We did miss having a discount cigar after dinner because well, that really isn’t something that we normally do but we all ate so much that we felt we should…instead, this is what happened:

That is Susan’s husband..he was basically comatose after dinner. And we had great fun at his expense. He is such a good sport though that he got over it pretty fast. I wish I had thought to paint his nails bright pink!

The best part of the meal? Hmmm, the fried turkey was delicious, the pineapple casserole was superb but these…

…yes, all desserts. The desserts were divine! That Red Velvet cakes was sooo good. I could have eaten myself into a coma with that. So glad there wasn’t much left.

So, from my family to yours…I hope that you were as blessed as us this Thanksgiving and may the upcoming Christmas Holidays be Merry and Bright.
