I remember as a young child sitting on the edge of the bathtub watching my Daddy shave as he was getting ready to take my Mom out for an evening. He would shine his shoes, iron his pants, and the smell of after shave would be floating in the air as they got ready to walk out the door. As us girls got older, we got the job of shining his shoes and ironing his pants…and I would still go sit on the edge of the tub as he shaved, telling him about all of the things that were important to me at that time. He was a captive audience you see. He couldn’t easily escape the conversation…and I always loved to watch him shave…and I loved the smell of his shaving soap. See, he used an old fashioned shave bowl with shave soap and a brush. I still have his set tucked away somewhere among some of the treasures that once belonged to him, put aside for my son when he is old enough to appreciate such things. I sure do miss my Daddy.

Van der Hagen Shave set

This year for Christmas I have a Son-In-Law to think of. Tate was the only boy in our family for many years. But with the addition of Matt, we had to think a little differently than we were used to. And since I am one that treasures the ways of the old days, traditions and making memories…I think it is high-time that Matt gets a shave set of his own. I think that there will come a day when he has a child of his own and he will be able to remember conversations with his child while he lathers and shaves. Because seriously, when it comes right down to it, Life is a lot about the memories that we make.

Van der Hagen Luxury Shave Set

The Van der Hagen Luxury Shave Set includes their pure, handmade, kettle processed shave soap, a classy ceramic shave bowl, efficient badger bristle brush and stand for as little as 20 dollars for the premium set, the luxury set retails for around $30! Making a great gift for the men in your life. Not only can men take pride in using the nostalgic and luxurious shave tools they once watched their fathers and grandfathers shave with, but they can also take pleasure in knowing their sons will have that same lasting memory. And I am telling you, the smell is DIVINE! I love the way the shave soap smells.

If your guy isn’t even sure HOW to use a shave set, it is easy!! You simply place the soap into the mug, wet the brush with warm tap water. Using circular motion over soap, create desired amount of lather. Apply lather to beard using the badger brush. And shave as normal. After shaving, rinse brush under warm tap water. Store on custom stand to dry. The stand even has a place to hold whichever razor he prefers.

Today is Keeta’s Birthday! She is turning 2.

Who is Keeta? Well, she is Chuka’s best friend. And what would it be if your best friend didn’t celebrate your birthday with you?

So, we are having a dog party today. Keeta got to come over to play while her Mom works. And what would a birthday party be without games?

Keeta

So, Keeta went and found herself a toilet paper roll.

Then Chuka decided he had to have it and dared anyone to try to take it from him.

So, since it IS after all a party, I drug another one out so they could both have one.

roxie

Roxie is only wants to know when it’s going to be time to eat.

She did get dressed for the occasion though!

We have been preparing for Christmas early this year. I have also heard from family and friends that they are preparing earlier this year as well. I think with the economy folks are doing a little here and a little there. That is why over time I will be bringing you some great gift ideas earlier this year.ePillow for iPad

One of the hot gifts this year and for several years past is an iPad. With that iPad we all need accessories. One of my favorite accessories happens to be the ePillow!! I love this thing. It makes lounging on the couch, reclining on the bed or traveling in the car with the iPad so much easier and more comfortable.

ePillow for the iPad

The ePillow is the perfect size, not too large, not too small. It also has a handy pocket for headphones for those times when you need to be a little quieter. Just so happens, this is my favorite new travel companion…and is not only great for holding the iPad, but sleeping as well.

So, if you are looking for that perfect gift for the family member or friend who has everything, this is your solution.

To learn more about the ePillow check out their website, find them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

Today is a big day!

Stephanie

This little bit was born 22 years ago today. I took her with me to vote yesterday because she had never done so before and then she exercised her right as a citizen and voted herself!!

When she was born she would fit in the palm of your hand. She is a little bigger than that now, but not by much. She may be my niece but she has always been such a huge part of my life that she is like one of my own kids. So while she may be little bitty, she holds a big chunk of our hearts and I want to wish her the happiest of days today and hope all her wishes come true!!

And another birthday…

Charlie

Meet Charlie! Today is his birthday as well but yesterday was his big day.

He was adopted by my mother from an animal shelter yesterday, then took a trip to Petco and got a spa treatment. I have to say, Petco in Dalton GA was so fabulous!! He needed a bath something terrible and when they found out he had just found his forever home and was on his way home for the very first time they gave him the works, took super great care of him and pampered him silly.

And, I can’t leave out Chuka.

chuka

As we were celebrating Stephanie’s birthday he felt a little left out. So, he decided to grab something similar to one of those knee scooters for sale and go for a swim! He was a little unsure about it at first but he eventually came to love being in the pool with everyone. I think we ay be seeing him floating around catching some rays more often from now on…who knows, he may be surfing next.

Hope you have a great day!!
