This year for the 4th of July we have a heck of a weekend planned. We will spend Saturday in Hiawassee visiting with family and friends, eating good food and hanging out at Carter Camp listening to everyone pick and watching them grin. Yep, that’s right…a good old fashioned Pickin’ and Grinnin’. It is an event that we look forward to every year and I can’t wait.

Then on Sunday we will be going to a cookout at some friends house where we will lounge by the pool, eat good food and just have a relaxing good time.

Monday will be a day full of fun on the lake. Riding around on the boat, tubing, skiing, and all that fun stuff.

In other words we will be outside ALL weekend. With us all having fair skin that means gobs of sunscreen applied on a regular basis and hoping like heck none of us gets burned too bad. Erin and I have both had scares with skin cancer and it runs rampant in my family. We have to be really, really careful and make sure that our sunscreen is of high quality and it isn’t expired. That is where Banana Boat comes in.

One of the things that I love about Banana Boats new line is that it is 110 SPF! 110!! Did I tell you that it is 110 SPF? Ok, just wanted to make sure. Because for us, that is a MAJOR plus. It’s HUGE.And it comes in the convenience of a spray! LOVE it!!

ALSO, this sun season, Banana Boat® sun care is setting out to raise $101,000 for The Skin Cancer Foundation by “sun certifying” 101,000 Americans. As part of the brand’s Sun 101 education campaign, Banana Boat® is helping to teach Americans about the basics of sun protection. You can get sun certified on http://www.facebook.com/BananaBoatBrand, by taking a short “Sun Certification” quiz. They will receive a “Sun Certified” badge to display on their own Facebook wall and trigger a $1 donation to support The Skin Cancer Foundation’s sun education initiatives, for a total donation of up to $101,000. It is really easy and goes to a great cause!

Banana Boat was so gracious and sent my family a sampling of their new line of 110 SPF products. We have been testing them out to see if they would meet our needs and I am THRILLED to say that not a one of us has burned even the slightest bit. That’s a pretty big testimony folks. We took Banana Boat on a recent rafting trip, to the pool and to the lake so far. I think I might just be in love and can’t thank them enough for the protection that they have provided to my family through their line of products. We are now loyal users and fans!

The other day I was on the phone with my friend Beth. Her daughter took the phone away from her and was telling me about this wonderful treat that they had made. She said I just had to try it…she was right. OhMyStinkinHeck are these suckers ever good! These are better than passing GO while playing Monopoly with no exit signs.

These are the pictures that Stephanie took along with her version of the recipe:

Banana Boats

1 bunch of Bananas
1 bag of mini marshmallows
Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup
Aluminum Foil

Leave the peel on the bananas. Cut a small slit in the center of them (Do not go all the way through the banana). Stuff them with the mini marshmallows. Next wrap the bananas in aluminum foil. Place them on a fire (or grill) for 2-5 minutes, depending on how hot the fire is. Take the bananas off the fire and gently take the peels off the bananas (the bananas will easily break). Drizzle the bananas with chocolate syrup and enjoy! Nanner Boats

Now, aren’t those fabulous? And so easy! I played around with mine a little. I also used caramel syrup and strawberry syrup. All are delicious! There are so many different ways that you could make these. You could stuff the bananas with flavored marshmallows, little pieces of chocolate or caramel candies…the possibilities are just endless.

Both of my kids have grown up in the kitchen. I have always had them in there with me no matter what I was cooking. They measure, they stir, they taste. Now, The Princess can cook any meal and is an accomplished baker. She makes all of our desserts, cause ya’ll know, I am not a baker. Just a cook. Smartypants is coming into his own place within our kitchen. I hear him in there many evenings creating his own thing. He loves to make Frosted Hot Chocolate. I know, that is such a contradiction of terms, but that is what he calls it. So tonight I hear him in the kitchen rambling around…and after all is said and done he brings me this:

Yes, he created his own recipe and documented it. He even cleans up his own mess. He is such a great guy. After he made his creation and documented it, he brought a glass for everyone…and I have to say…it was quite good. His favorite appliance is the blender. That is where he feels most comfortable and where he does his creating. The Princess has always liked a recipe to follow. But the boy, well, he is like his Momma, he just likes to throw it all in and see what happens.

So go drag out your blender and have yourself a banana smoothie compliments of Smartypants.
