The Marvelous Toy (GIVEAWAY)
November 19th, 2009THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED !!!
You can however visit The Marvelous Toy for ordering information and you can always check out some of the other great giveaways going on here at The Post-It Place.

If you are looking for a very special gift to give a child in your life the Christmas…Here it is!
It went zip! when it moved
And bop! when it stopped
And Whirr! when it stood still.
It was The Marvelous Toy!
For nearly half a century, “The Marvelous Toy”-composed by the legendary singer/songwriter Tom Paxton-has enchanted children and adults alike. A simple tale about a mysterious, magical, and mystical toy that a father gives to his son-and that eventually gets passed down to the next generation celebrates a child’s sense of wonder. The witty, evocative lyrics spark the imagination. No surprise, then, that the song has been recorded by countless major artists, from Peter, Paul, and Mary to the Chad Mitchell Trio to John Denver, and won legions of fans through the years.

Paxton’s marvelous song has finally become a stunning picture book-oversized, wonderfully packaged, and complete with a CD offering three songs sung by Tom himself plus a music-only version of “The Marvelous Toy” to sing along with. Featuring incredible and wildly imaginative art by Steve Cox, illustrator of the award-winning Pigs Might Fly, the story is now as amazing to look at as it always has been to listen to.
This is such a great book and CD combo. It will be passed from generation to generation as children try to imagine what The Marvelous Toy could be and you will find yourself singing the song and reading the book time and time again.

Art-iculating Kid’s Creativity
October 13th, 2009
The Art House DVD series uses energetic songs and animation to reinforce this simple artistic principle: everything around you is made up of basic shapes and when you learn to draw those, you can draw anything!
Art House Volume 1: Basic Shapes and Animals is fun and educational, teaching your child to use basic shapes to create pictures and drawing that are worthy of your home art gallery, the refrigerator door. Now you can join Teacher Emily and the Art House Gang as they learn to use basic shapes to draw your favorite animals and enjoy fun songs, music videos and animation throughout the video.

Locally we have seen some major cut backs in the public school system and electives were some of the first programs to be cut. Art was considered an elective class, but with the loss of recreational time and many of the more creative classes…how are children supposed to nurture their natural desire to be creative and unique individuals? Art House has come to the rescue with a program that will help us as parents develop those artistic skills at an early age promoting problem solving, communication, curiosity and perspective. Children ages 3 and up will benefit from Art House Volume 1: Basic Shapes and Animals. They will learn to draw things such as fish, dogs, birds, dinosaurs, monkeys and more. The program is interactive and easy to follow along with providing step-by-step instructions along the way.
There are some future titles in the works that are scheduled to be released in 2010 that include:
Volume 2: Start Your Engines
Volume 3: On the Farm
Volume 4: Under The Sea
As a Homeschool parent that is always on the lookout for fun and educational supplements to our core curriculum, I highly recommend Art House Volume 1: Basic Shapes and Animals. It can be used with multiple aged children and it is just fun. I even learned a lot. Of course, I am not an artist by any means. So any help was just that…help. Because when even your kids make fun of your dog that looks like a blob, you know you need help.
So grab some paper, some pencils, some pens, some crayons and let’s go create!
“Art House sent me a copy of the DVD for review purposes. I was in no other way compensated for this post and all opinions are those of my own and have been in no way influced by any outside source.”

We have some family in from Holland that I didn’t realize were here so we stayed and shot the bull for quite some time. He was once a chef and it was great talking food, even if I do feel like I need a weight loss pill now. Sandy Belk Fine Arts (GIVEAWAY)
April 27th, 2009THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED!!!
Welcome to another edition of Meet Me Monday. Today we are talking to a digital artist and photographer named Sandy Belk.
About Me
I grew up in Athens, TN. Spent a few years in Boston, MA went to some art schools and moved to Georgia in the mid-nineties. So I feel like I’ve lived here long enough to consider myself a born again native. I live on a farm in Douglasville, GA with three dogs, ten sheep and two goats. (I need to introduce her to my Sister)
(This is titled Dancing on Water. I would LOVE to be dancing on the water)
I keep very busy with my full-time job, art exhibits, art interest groups, and my etsy store. And of course there are my other “full-time” job(s). One being my husband and his never-ending demand for sewing projects–How can ONE man POSSIBILY have sooooo many sewing projects? There’s also caring for my invalid father-in-law and the fruitless attempts to keep things half-way clean when others are tracking dirt and messes into the house. . . all y’all know what I mean
(This is titled Chaos…it superbly fits my life!)
About my art
I’ve always been interested in art and have worked for about 20 years as a graphic/web designer. I currently work for a major corporation as a web designer. Several years ago, I decided that I really wanted to do something creative for myself-without the restraints of corporate philosophy. So I started learning to photograph and paint digitally. Now, I’m focusing on creating a fine arts business by selling my art work in galleries and exhibitions and online shops-like Etsy
I create abstract photo impressionistic art. I photograph everyday elements–like nature, people and animals-use these photos to create abstract works of art that express emotional concepts. I use a variety of digital and traditional tools to create my artwork.
Even though my artwork is “painted” digitally, the tools that I use work very much like real paint and paint brushes-without the mess. I often add acrylic paint and varnish to the printed pieces-to add texture and weight to the final piece. I take the photographs or drawing that inspire the paintings I created-no stock photos are used. However, I’m occasionally commissioned to create paintings from photographs other people have taken.
NOTE:
. . . . if there’s any body out there that really loves to sew please contact me. My husband needs a lot of help. He’s really cheap and the only fabrics he ever wants to use are either Olive Green or Mossy Oak camouflage.
You can visit Sandy Belk to see all aspects of her art at any of these places:

FYF - DUO (GIVEAWAY)
April 24th, 2009THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED!!!!!
Welcome to another edition of Feature You Friday! Meet Laura Kim of Duo….
Hi there! My name is Laura Kim and I’m the designer behind the earrings at my shop, Duo. I have been living in Georgia with my husband for about three years now. I am an elementary art teacher by day and a jewelry maker by way of night. I’m a true Hoosier girl at heart who happened to fall in love with the beauty of stones at a very young age when my Dad took us to Rock & Gem shows.

I have been designing and selling jewelry online for well over 6 years. After about 4 years running my own jewelry website, I decided that I wanted to work at a slower pace and so I opened my Etsy storefront. I absolutely loved making necklaces and bracelets too, but I couldn’t keep up with the overhead of so many supplies. I couldn’t bear the thought of just giving up my love of jewelry making, so I decided to focus on earrings for the time being, because well, I just love them! Working with kiddos and art supplies all day long doesn’t really allow me to wear a lot of adornment, however, earrings I can do without much hassle! Plus, I’m just addicted to beads and baubles and have to get my hands working with them whenever possible. My Etsy shop has been a great place for me to run a small business where my handiwork can be appreciated while I stay connected to my customers that I have built up over the years. Plus, I have a great time networking with other Georgia artists.
My shop name, Duo, is just a reflection of the jewelry I make. Since I concentrate on creating earrings; duo: two objects of the same sort seemed to be the perfect name! I hope you enjoy browsing around and to say thank you…I am giving one lucky reader any pair of earrings (their choosing) priced at $15 or under. (This would make a great Mother’s Day gift!)
To Enter: Visit Duo and choose the pair you like the best. Leave a comment here at The Post-It Place stating your choice. All entries must be received by May 1st at 5 PM EST. All entries must have a valid US mailing address. Winner will be selected using Random.org. Winner will have 3 days to respond to the confirmation e-mail before another winner will be selected. Have fun and Good Luck!
