crock pot green beans
.
It’s going to be in the high 90′s here today with a heat index of over 100 degrees. Whew, pair that with a broken a/c unit and that means it’s going to be HOT! Luckily our new unit is scheduled to be installed today and I can’t wait!! Two weeks with no air has been long enough!  During these 2 weeks I have gotten a little more creative with our meals because it is just too hot in here to cook.
Recently I had some fresh from the garden beans and as I was stringing them I got to thinking about how I was going to cook them without heating up the whole house. I ultimately decided that I would throw them in the slow cooker. I was thrilled when they came out tasting just like my grandmothers used to! Her green beans were always the best!
I didn’t get a final shot of the beans fully cooked but let me just say, they are delicious!!
.
Southern Style Slow Cooker Green Beans
2-3 pounds fresh green beans, string and snap
32 ounces chicken broth
1 onion,  cut into wedges
1/2 lb bacon, cut into small pieces and semi fried
bacon drippings
1 Tablespoon garlic powder
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
Add everything into the slow cooker and mix. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 5 hours.

We have a good bit of company come through our house on a regular basis…and we have 4 dogs. While I try to keep my house relatively clean it is well lived-in and is rarely spotless. I like to joke that you can come see me anytime, but if you are coming to see my house you better make an appointment a year in advanced.

One trick that I LOVE to use when I get a call that someone is going to be here in minutes and there isn’t time to really clean things up is to use smell good products. Light a candle, spray air freshener, etc. A clean smell always makes an environment seem cleaner.

I received some of the new scents in the mail from Air Wick. Ohhhh, I can’t wait…they smelled FABULOUS and I hadn’t even opened the box!

029

Then I realized that one of the tops wasn’t on correctly and it had leaked. :0(

And let me tell you…if you ever need to remove the finish off of any furniture…they work great for that! I will be stripping my table and re-finishing it now from where it leaked on mine.

My personal favorite is the American Samoa! Ohhhhh my goodness, it smells heavenly. I also like the clean smell of Denali.

The limited edition collection was crafted by fragrance experts who spend countless hours creating the perfect harmony of fragrance notes representative of the natural elements found in these national parks and pays homage to the brand’s “The Craft of Fragrance” creative platform. “Air Wick is thrilled to partner with the National Park Foundation to preserve and celebrate the purity and beauty of America’s over 400 national parks,” said Domenick Tiziano, Senior Brand Manager, Reckitt Benckiser. “While not every consumer has visited a national park, these fragrances are a catalyst for the senses, transporting the consumer to some of the nation’s most amazing places.”

And that they do. At first whiff you just feel like you have been whisked away. And let me tell you…I needed that right now!

Raspberry Glazed Chicken Wings

These babies are OhMyStinkinHeck DELICIOUS!! Seriously, I know they sounds a little weird, but give them a try, you are going to be amazed. I made them for our Memorial Day get-together and they were the first things to disappear. I didn’t make nearly enough to go around and heard about it for days.

  051

You only need chicken wings, raspberry jelly, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce and garlic salt.

057

Mix up the sauce and pour it on.

055

Bake and enjoy!

3 pounds chicken wings

1 cup Raspberry jam ( I use the seedless kind)

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

2 teaspoons red pepper flakes

Mix the raspberry jam, vinegar, soy sauce and red pepper flakes together in a large bowl. Place the chicken wings in the sauce, coating each one well. Place each wing on a foil lined baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

We recently celebrated my son Tate’s 16th birthday. We cooked a boatload of food and the results of that was a boatload of dishes. The one thing that Tate asked for was sticky chicken. Now, as you can imagine by the name…it is sticky. Which makes for hard to clean dishes. Now, cook 20 pounds of that…and that folks is how you get a boatload of…

…some really hard to clean dishes.

Perfect for trying out the new Cascade Platinum Pacs

Normally, I almost wash my dishes before placing them in the dishwasher, but I didn’t with these. I simply rinsed the majority of the mess off and decided to try and see if they would really come clean or not.

Cascade Platinum cascade2

I placed a Cascade Platinum pac in the compartment and said a little prayer. Why would I say a little prayer about my dishes? Well, because if this doesn’t really work that mess is REALLY going to be stuck on!
