Super Z & Super Fun Times

August 16th, 2009

Super Z is a shortened version of Super Zeitgeist. What the heck is that you ask? Well, a band of course. Super Z was shortened specifically for their kids CD since their name posed a problem for kids to say. It actually means “the spirit of the times” in German. They take it as living in the moment, creating and performing.

Super Fun Times is a collection of songs that Super Z has been writing, playing and performing for the last couple of years. The lead singer has a 3 year old son and they found themselves writing all these kids songs and decided to put them together in a CD for your child’s enjoyment.

The songs are upbeat and fun for any preschooler. My favorite is “La-La-La Let’s Go”, but the kids really thought that “Plant In My Hair” was so funny.

You can preview and purchase their CD at www.cdbaby.com/superz

If you would like to follow them on Twitter they can be found at : http://twitter.com/superzeitgeist

Diane Birch

Wow, such a mature sound for someone so young. Diane is in her mid-twenties but her raspy, soulful voice rakes through your soul. Her album “Bible Belt” will truly leave you longing for more. Born the youngest child of a traveling preacher, music became her refuge. Although she was born in Michigan, Birch’s father moved the family to places such as Zimbabwe, South Africa and Australia. Her childhood became molded by many moves and many more  experiences than most see in their lifetime. As a teen she returned to the U.S, where the family finally settled in Portland, Oregon. With music as her refuge she became a fabulous piano player which she plays by ear. From the opening track “Fire Escape” to the closing “Magic View” you will be spellbound by the very talented Diane Birch!

Side FX

Music is such a personal journey. What a song says to one person may have a totally different meaning to the next. My family and I were listening to Side FX the other day and we all had a different take. We all LOVE Side FX’s album Contradictions! It blends many different genre’s into one album and with Kim Cameron at the forefront, they just couldn’t have gone wrong. Kim will remind you of a mix between Carly Simon and Sheryl Crow. And let me just tell you, Kim has some spunk about her too.

This album has received praise after praise and I can see why. With a seamless blend between blues/rock in “Her Escape” to country/Americana in “Life’s Mystery” to new wave in “Scattered” there is something for absolutely everyone in this album.

Side FX is a Washington DC based band that came out of the basement in 2007 to hit the city by storm…and I don’t think they will be stopping with just DC. You can check them out at www.sidefxband.net and see more about who they are, where they came from and where they are going which I assure you is UP!

Dion Roy

Dion Roy is an emerging artist on the indie music scene, fusing his electro-acoustic roots with his knack for writing an unforgettable pop/rock hook. I LOVE his music and I know you will too. He is definitely someone to be on the lookout for.

Born in Namibia, raised in South Africa, later raised in New Jersey and now a true New Yorker at heart, Roy has lived and breathed the downtown Lower East Side music landscape for the past 9 years. Playing as a bassist in several bands over the years, Dion Roy has graced the stage at all of the usual NYC suspects, including The Bitter End, The Red Lion, Pianos, and Arctica Bar, and opened for high-profile acts like The Donnas, Bleu, and Ben Kweller, while touring throughout the North-Eastern College circuit.

Dion Roy’s debut album “Gallery” is FINALLY complete. It is scheduled for official release on June 9th, 2009, where it will be available for download on iTunes and Amazon.

AND, if you happen to live in the New York area…you can see him live. For Free! Tomorrow!

dion-roy

I HIGHLY suggest you check Dion Roy out! I absolutely love his music. He writes all of his own lyrics and he is fresh and engaging. His voice just draws you in and keeps you there. His blend of genres has drawn comparisons to other singer/songwriters like Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn, and Damien Rice, and electronic bands such as Keane, Postal Service, and Snow Patrol. Check him out! You will love him! ANd if you happen to live in New York…and go to the concert…tell him I said Hi and send me a picture of you enjoying the show!

SlotRadio

April 28th, 2009

Both the kids have MP3 players. I always kinda wanted one but I didn’t like the hassle and challenge of having to load all of that music on there. I like simplicity. A LOT! So, when I heard of the Sansa Slot Radio…I JUMPED on the chance to check it out. I love it. It is made for people like me. It is stylish, small and easy to use.

Introducing slotRadio - the instant load music player bundled with a 1,000 song slotRadioTM Mix card. No downloads, no PCs and no work involved. Simply pop the card in the player and enjoy a near-endless supply of full-length tracks.

SLOTRADIO PLAYER BUNDLE COMES WITH
Sansa slotRadio Player • slotRadio mix Card (1,000 great songs) • Ear Buds
USB Cable • Protective silicone case • AC Adapter • Jewel Case • Media Case

I love the music that is already pre-loaded, it is songs that I do listen to.  All big name artists and big hits in every genre. It also allows you to listen to FM radio. The only thing that I do not like is the earbuds. They hurt my ears. But, I have small ears and they may be fine for others…so I went out and got me a set of the jelly earbuds so that I could listen in comfort. And it is so nice to have while I am working at the greenhouse or outside or while working on the computer. The slotRadio is great to use anywhere.

It is the music player for the technically challenged. All you do is charge it, insert your card and play. It really is that easy!

Thank you to MomFuse for this great opportunity!

Ballas Hough Band

March 21st, 2009

Meet the Ballas Hough Band. Anyone who’s given the hit TV series Dancing With the Stars even a cursory glance knows the names Mark Ballas and Derek Hough. I am not anyone. I have never watched Dancing With The Stars. I am not that big into TV and well, it just isn’t worth the fight to gain dominance over the remote. So, I had no idea who these people were. It is a very good CD. And if you are one of those people who LOVE Dancing with the Stars, I bet you will like it even more. My Mother for instance. She watches it religiously. The debut album of The Ballas Hough Band is in stores now. Not in the mood to run out and get it? You can always download it off of iTunes or order through Amazon.
