We have been working on a few projects around here. I showed you the towel rack we made from parts of a baby bed here and you can also read in that post the reason why we are using parts of baby beds to make things. One of the other things that we made was a bench. We needed more seating out on the back deck after the installation of the pool and the upcoming 4th of July Holiday. See we are having family and friends over and while that is nothing new, it hasn’t always been typical for us to congregate out back.

So, Bric set out to make a bench out of parts of a baby bed…that would support adults. Basically he used the ends and one of the side rails. None of the hardware that comes with a typical baby bed was used though. He used “L” brackets and screws that were a little sturdier. He also used some slats of wood between the legs to give it just a little more support and make it steadier (you can see those in the next picture).

Here is the finished project. We are very pleased with the outcome and can’t wait to make the table to go with the benches. The pillows were found at Big Lots by the way. We looked at all kinds of outdoor rated cushions but golly jeeze they are expensive. So what the heck, these are more stylish, very comfortable, were a lot more suited to our budget and I can just take them in when not in use!!
I could really get into up-cycling and re-purposing things. It is so much fun and WAY cheaper than trying to buy new stuff. Have you up-cycled or re-purposed anything at your place? I would love to hear about it. And if you have any ideas on things to make with the sides of baby beds let me know. We have lots! And when I say lots…I mean LOTS. So throw your ideas at me and lets see what else we can come up with.
